Impact of monsoon wind suggests possibilityof heavy rain at few places

KATHMANDU, September 8: The Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted heavy rainfall in three provinces with general cloudy condition across the country today, Wednesday, due to impact of monsoon wind. Presently monsoon trough remains closer to the average location, suggesting heavy rain at some places. The monsoon system is likely to move down from its average position and this will thwart the scale of rain. According to meteorologist Pratibha Manandhar, monsoon has not yet ended in the country, there are chances of light to moderate rains ahead.  Presently, light rainfall is taking place at some places of Province 1, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.  Likewise, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places of Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces in the afternoon today. Tonight, there will be generally cloudy across the country and light to moderate thunder shower has been predicted at some places and heavy rain is likely at one or two places of the Bagmati Province, the Division said.  According to the Division’s latest weather information, the maximum temperature was measured at 19.6 degrees Celsius today followed by 29.8 degrees Celsius maximum temperature. Likewise, Jumla reported the lowest temperature 15.5 degrees Celsius and Dipayal Silgadhi reported the highest 35.0 degrees Celsius across the country today.

Monsoon to remain active for two-three days

KATHMANDU, August 11: Heavy rainfall has been expected at some places on Wednesday due to the impact of monsoon wind.   According to meteorologist Sabina Shakya, heavy rain with thunder and lightning is likely at one or two places of Province 1, Province 2, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province and Lumbini Province today as the monsoon trough draws closer to the Nepal’s southern plains.  The Meteorological Forecasting  Division says monsoon is to become active for the next two-three days, bringing light to moderate rainfall at many places of the country and heavy rain along with thunder and lightning at one or two places. The Division has predicted the risk of landslide in hilly regions due to rain and the risk of floods and seasonal floods as well, stating that the disaster might have its implication on the transport sector.  According to the latest weather bulletin, the minimum temperature of the Kathmandu Valley was measured 19.8 degrees Celsius and the maximum 29.6 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Jumla recorded the lowest 15.2 degrees Celsius today while Dipayal Silgadhi reported the highest 34.5 degrees Celsius.

Rain forecast for three days in most parts of the country

KATHMANDU, July 12: Rain has been predicted in most parts of the country for the next three days due to the impact of the monsoon wind. According to Meteorologist Ganga Nagarkoti, there is a chance of light to moderate rain in most places and heavy rain in one or two places as monsoon remains active. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said light to moderate rain is taking place in some parts of Province No. 1, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and some other parts of the country. Presently, there is generally to partly cloudy across the country.  Likewise, light to moderate rain is expected in many places across the country tonight. Heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Bagmati and Gandaki.  The Meteorological Forecasting Division, therefore, has urged one and all to remain alert towards the possibility of water-induced disaster.  Heavy rain has been forecast in some parts of Province No. 1, Bagmati and Gandaki on Wednesday. Though monsoon tentatively makes its presence in Nepal from June 13, this time it had arrived three days earlier.

Kathmandu Valley records heavy rain, some areas waterlogged

KATHMANDU, July 11: Most of the places in the Kathmandu Valley recorded heavy rain on Saturday afternoon. As an impact of the active monsoon, rain is occurring in most parts of the country at present.  According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, light to moderate rain is occurring at many places of the country while heavy rain with thunder and lightning at a few places of Province 1, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province and Karnali Province. Due to heavy rain on Saturday afternoon, most of the roads in and around Anamnagar, Ghattekulo, Bijulibazar, Babarmahal and some others were waterlogged.  Similarly, the areas near Dhobikhola corridor and Hanumante catchment areas in Madhyapur Thimi were inundated this afternoon.   Kathmandu witnessed 69.4 mm rain as per the latest report of the Division.  The maximum temperature of Kathmandu was measured 29.2 degree Celsius on Saturday.

The weather bulletin issued by the Division for the next three days states that the impact of the monsoon wind is seen throughout the country and it would be generally to completely cloudy in the afternoon today. There are chances of light to moderate rainfall at many places of Province no 1, Province no 2, Bagmati province, Lumbini province and Gandaki province, and at few places of Sudurpaschim province.  There are also chances of occurrence of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at some places of Province no 1, Province no 2, Bagmati province, Lumbini province and Gandaki province, and of very heavy rain at one or two places of the Bagmati province, Gandaki province and Lumbini province.  Heavy rain along with thunder and lightning is forecast at few places of Lumbini, Sudurpaschim and Bagmati provinces at night.  Likewise, the weather will be generally to fully cloudy throughout the country on Friday with chances of light to moderate rain at many places. There is possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at few places of Province no 1, Bagmati province, Gandaki province and Sudurpaschim province, and of much heavy rain at one or two places of Sudurpaschim province.  Kathmandu Valley is experiencing continuous rain since last night. Kathmandu received 16 millimetres rainfall.  The Division stated in its weather update that Ghorahi received the highest rainfall of 136 millimetres followed by Taplejung with 58 millimetres, Dhankuta with 50 millimetres and Pokhara with 46 millimetres. Kathmandu Valley recorded maximum temperature 29.5 degrees Celsius and minimum 21.2 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours.

Most parts of the country to witness rain today

KATHMANDU, June 25: The Meteorological Forecasting Division of Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has said that light to moderate rain is likely to occur across the country today.  Chances of heavy rain with thunder and lightning at one or two places of Province 1 and Bagmati Province are likely, according to the Division. At present, light to moderate rain is occurring in most of the parts of the country.   The Division said that some places of Province 1, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini have witnessed light to moderate rainfall due to low pressure line of the monsoon near the southern part of the country.  The Kathmandu Valley has also received light rain from early morning today.  Likewise, generally to mostly cloudy weather is forecasted tonight in the country. Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at some places of Province 1, Province 2, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province and Lumbini Province and at a few places of Karnali Province and Sudur Pashchim Province, the Division said. The Kathmandu Valley recorded a minimum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 29 degrees Celsius today.
