1,500 people’s representatives of UML join CPN (Unified Socialist)

KATHMANDU, September 28: As many as 1,505 people’s representatives of the main opposition party, CPN (UML) have joined the CPN (Unified Socialist)-led by Madhav Kumar Nepal after the split. Likewise, 921 people’s representatives of Janta Samajbadi Party (JSP) have joined Democratic Socialist Party after the split. Earlier on August 25, the CPN (UNL) split and a new party, CPN (Unified Socialist), was formed under the leadership of Madhav Kumar Nepal. On the same date, JSP also split and Mahantha Thakur formed a new party named Democratic Socialist Party. Introduction of a ‘party-split’ ordinance by the government allowed the political parties to split if only 20 percent members of its central committee or the parliamentary party members were in its favour. 14 lawmakers, 17 central committee members authenticate Thakur-led DSP

KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Lawmakers of the federal parliament and central committee members of the newly formed Democratic Socialist Party (DSP), led by Mahantha Thakur, reached the Election Commission and authenticated their support to the party.  A splinter faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) had applied for the registration of DSP. The poll body summoned the CC members and MPs to verify their signatures.  Meanwhile, 14 members of the federal parliament and 17 CC members reached the commission on Wednesday afternoon for verification.  The JSP had 34 lawmakers in the federal parliament including the House of Representatives (HoR) and National Assembly (NA).  With this, the DSP is likely to get the party registration certificate from the election body.  Easing the process for party-split, the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government had introduced an ordinance which allows either 20 percent members of parliamentary party or central committee each to form a new party.  Meanwhile, the lawmakers and central committee members of the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led NCP (Unified Socialist) also reached the poll body on Wednesday itself to authenticate the new party.

KATHMANDU, August 25: The chairman of newly registered CPN (Unified Democratic), Madhav Kumar Nepal and chairman of Democratic Socialist Party, Mahantha Thakur are scheduled to visit the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday. According to the spokesperson of the poll body,  chairmen of both the parties are required to be physically present at the commission for authentication of their  new party. Following the issuance of a party-split ordinance, the CPN-UML and Janata Samajbadi Party split, which gave rise to CPN (Unified Democratic) and People’s Democratic Socialist Party. The poll body is scheduled to pass the decision regarding the authentication of these new political parties by 2 PM this afternoon.

Madhav Nepal’s new party’s name changed to NCP (Unified Socialist)

KATHMANDU, Aug 20: A new party led by erstwhile senior leader of the main opposition CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal, has changed its name citing the name clashes with the CPN-UML.  During its petition for registration on Wednesday, the splinter faction of the UML proposed CPN-UML (Socialist)as its name.  However, a team of party leaders including Rajendra Pandey reached at the Election Commission (EC) on Friday and  proposed a new name --- Nepal Communist Party (Unified Socialist).  Earlier the EC signaled that the party might not be able to use the UML in its name.  Similarly, the earlier proposed 95-member Central Committee has also been expanded to 115.  Meanwhile, another party led by former leader of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Mahantha Thakur is also preparing to change its name. The party earlier proposed JSP (Democratic).

With split in UML and JSP, CPN-UML (Samajbadi), JSP (Democratic) registered

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Main opposition CPN-UML has split formally. With this, a team of leaders led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal reached the Election Commission on Wednesday and applied for party registration under the name- CPN UML (Samajbadi) on Wednesday.  EC Spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha informed that an application for new party CPN UML (Samajbadi) was registered at EC. The new party has 22 federal lawmakers (HoR and National Assembly) and 58 central committee members who earlier belonged to the CPN-UML, according to a leader Rajendra Pasad Pandey.  It has proposed a 95-member central committee under the chairmanship of  Madhav Nepal. The party got the registration number 433. Similarly, on Wednesday itself, another group of leaders applied for the party registration under the name- Janata Samajbadi Party (Democratic). It came as a new party after the existing Janata Samajbadi Party split formally. The party has proposed a 24-member executive committee led by leader Mahantha Thakur. This party has 14 lawmakers and 14 central members. The new party got the registration number 434.
