Position of four UML lawmakers who visited EC in limbo

KATHMANDU, August 26: Following the split of CPN-UML, the positions of four UML lawmakers have now been in limbo. After the Election Commission refused to verify four UML lawmakers who had joined the Madhav Nepal faction of the party, the position of these lawmakers is now uncertain. Earlier on August 18, these lawmakers -- Som Prasad Pandey, Maya Gwayali, Tulsa Thap and Sharada Dei Bhatta -- had not signed the application filed by Madhav Kumar Nepal to register a new party at the poll body but later on August 24, they filled an application at the EC demanding to be verified as CPN (Unified Socialist). The Election Commission on Wednesday refused their call. Following the EC decision, these lawmakers are now compelled to remain in CPN-UML. They are sure to lose their position if they join CPN (Unified Socialist). According to an official at the commission, they won’t lose their position if CPN-UML does not take action against them and if they do not join CPN (Unified Socialist). However, CPN-UML is all set to take action against those leaders and lawmakers who joined  CPN (Unified Socialist).

UML lawmakers picket Speaker’s chamber

KATHMANDU, August 20: Citing that the Speaker did not relieve lawmakers who were sacked by the CPN-UML earlier, the lawmakers of the party have picketed the chamber of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota. The lawmakers have picketed the Speaker’s chamber in an apparent bid to pressurize the latter to relieve those lawmakers from their post, according to an MP Gokul Baskota. The party also drew the attention of Speaker Sapkota regarding the issue, on Thursday. Earlier, the party had sacked its 14 lawmakers including senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.

UML sacks 14 lawmakers including Madhav Nepal

KATHMANDU, Aug 17: The main opposition party CPN-UML has sacked 14 lawmakers belonging to the party following the Sher Bahadur Deuba led government’s decision to introduce an ordinance amending provisions to split a political party.  The UML registered a letter at the Federal Parliament Secretariat seeking dismissal of their membership of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Tuesday.  Those relieved from their positions include Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Mukunda Neupane, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Kalyani Kumari Khadka, Laxmi Chaudhary, Nira Devi Jairu, Pushpa Kumari Karna, Sarala Kumari Yadav, Kalila Khatun, Birodh Khatiwada, Krishna Lal Maharjan, Bhawani Khapung and Metmani Chaudhary.

UML seeks clarification from its 11 lawmakers

KATHMANDU, May 22: The ruling CPN-UML has decided to seek clarifications from the 11 lawmakers of the dissolved House of Representatives (HoR).  A Standing Committee meeting of the party, held on Sunday afternoon, decided to seek clarifications from the 11 lawmakers including the senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as they joined the opposition alliance led by Nepali Congress President, Sher Bahadur  According to UML Spokesperson, Pradeep Gyawali, senior leaders duo Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal, Bhim Bahadur Rawal, Mukunda Neupane, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Sarala Yadav, Pushpa Kumari Karna, Kalila Khan, Niradevi Jairu, Lakshmi Kumari Chaudhary and Kalyani Khadka are required to furnish their clarification by Monday morning.

22 UML lawmakers close to Nepal-faction to skip today’s parliament meeting

KATHMANDU, May 10: Lawmakers close to a faction of the ruling CPN-UML's senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal have decided not to resign immediately. A meeting of the lawmakers of the faction, which was held on Monday morning, decided not to join today’s meeting of parliament which is scheduled to vote on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s confidence motion.  According to Bhim Rawal, a leader of the faction, as many as 22 lawmakers will skip the special session of the House of Representatives (HoR).
