With split in UML and JSP, CPN-UML (Samajbadi), JSP (Democratic) registered

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Main opposition CPN-UML has split formally. With this, a team of leaders led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal reached the Election Commission on Wednesday and applied for party registration under the name- CPN UML (Samajbadi) on Wednesday.  EC Spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha informed that an application for new party CPN UML (Samajbadi) was registered at EC. The new party has 22 federal lawmakers (HoR and National Assembly) and 58 central committee members who earlier belonged to the CPN-UML, according to a leader Rajendra Pasad Pandey.  It has proposed a 95-member central committee under the chairmanship of  Madhav Nepal. The party got the registration number 433. Similarly, on Wednesday itself, another group of leaders applied for the party registration under the name- Janata Samajbadi Party (Democratic). It came as a new party after the existing Janata Samajbadi Party split formally. The party has proposed a 24-member executive committee led by leader Mahantha Thakur. This party has 14 lawmakers and 14 central members. The new party got the registration number 434.

PM Deuba sacks four JSP ministers

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba sacked four ministers of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP). Earlier, the JSP quit the ruling alliance and joined hands with the CPN-UML for the upcoming elections of the House of Representatives and the provincial assemblies. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba relieved Rajendra Shrestha, Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Mohammad Ishtiyaq Rayi, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Mrigendra Kumar Singh, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development and Pradip Yadav, Minister for Forest and Environment.

UML and JSP agree to join hands for 52 seats in upcoming HoR election

KATHMANDU, Oct 8: The CPN-UML and Janata Samajbadi Party have agreed to join hands for 52 seats in the upcoming election of the House of Representatives (HoR). Of the 52 seats, the CPN-UML has been allocated 35 seats while 17 have been allocated for JSP.

UML-JSP: Agree to share 16 seats each in Madesh Province

KATHMANDU, Oct 8: Of the 32 seats in the Madesh Province, the CPN-UML and the Janata Samjbadi Party (JSP) have agreed to share 16 seats each in the upcoming general elections, a UML leader told Ratopati. Likewise, the UML has decided to support the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)  in Jhapa-3 while the RPP has decided to support the UML in Jhapa-5. “We won’t be sharing many seats with RPP. So far we have agreed to join hands with RPP for a maximum of six seats,” a leader close to KP Oli told Ratopati. 12 JSP cadres arrested for displaying black flags to KP Oli

KATHMANDU, Sept 24: As many as 12 cadres of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) were arrested on charge of displaying black flags to KP Sharma Oli, Chairman of CPN-UML. It has been learnt that these people waved black flags to Oli on Saturday at Janakpur Airport.  Oli was in Janakpur to welcome some leaders of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party to CPN-UML.

1,500 people’s representatives of UML join CPN (Unified Socialist)

KATHMANDU, September 28: As many as 1,505 people’s representatives of the main opposition party, CPN (UML) have joined the CPN (Unified Socialist)-led by Madhav Kumar Nepal after the split. Likewise, 921 people’s representatives of Janta Samajbadi Party (JSP) have joined Democratic Socialist Party after the split. Earlier on August 25, the CPN (UNL) split and a new party, CPN (Unified Socialist), was formed under the leadership of Madhav Kumar Nepal. On the same date, JSP also split and Mahantha Thakur formed a new party named Democratic Socialist Party. Introduction of a ‘party-split’ ordinance by the government allowed the political parties to split if only 20 percent members of its central committee or the parliamentary party members were in its favour. After authenticating the new parties, the Election Commission had given a deadline for the UML and JSP lawmakers to join new parties as per their will. (with inputs from Gorkhapatra)

CPN (US) stronger than CPN-UML in Province 2, Sudur Paschim

KATHMANDU: The newly formed CPN (Unified Socialist) has emerged stronger than CPN-UML in Province 2 and Sudur Paschim Province. CPN (Unified Socialist), a party formed by a splinter faction of the main opposition CPN-UML, is led by Madhav Kumar Nepal. Of the 21 lawmakers of CPN-UML in the provincial assembly of Province 2, 12 have already joined CPN (Unified Socialist). One more UML lawmaker in the province is soon to join the party, according to CPN (US) leaders. Before the split, CPN-UML was the second-largest party in Province 2, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) being first with 55 lawmakers. But, now, UML has been ranked as the fifth party in the province. JSP, which also suffered the split, now has 39 lawmakers followed by the Nepali Congress, the ruling party, with 19 lawmakers, Democratic Socialist Party with 16 and CPN (Unified Socialist) with 12 lawmakers. Similarly, in Sudurpaschim Province, 13 lawmakers of CPN-UML have joined CPN (Unified Socialist) after the split which forced the party to slip to the third position in the province. It used to be the largest party before the split.  Now the CPN-UML has 12 lawmakers, CPN (Maoist Center)14, NC 12 and JSP two.

272 local representatives in Kaski to remain with CPN-UML

KASKI, September 4: All the people’s representatives elected in Kaski district from the CPN-UML have decided to remain the same party after its split. The people’s representatives of the CPN-UML were given the option to either remain in the same party or join newly formed CPN (Unified Socialist). During a conference of   people’s representatives  held in Kaski on Saturday, all the 272 local representatives have announced to remain intact with CPN (Unified Socialist), said Krishna Thapa, UML Kaski Chairman. The conference was attended by people’s representatives of four rural municipalities, Pokhara Metropolitan City, lawmakers of the federal parliament and Gandaki Province Assembly members.  After the split of CPN-UML and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), the Election Commission has issued a deadline till 5 PM of September 7 for people’s representatives to remain either  in the same party or join new party.
