KATHMANDU, May 13: Voting to elect new people’s representatives in all the 753 local units is currently underway across the country. The voting kicked off at 7 AM and is scheduled to continue till 5 PM today in 21,955 polling centers at 10,756 polling stations across the country.
As many as 17,733,723 voters will cast their votes to elect 35,221 representatives including 390 who were elected unopposed across the country.
What is the number of candidates?
As many as 145,011 candidates are contesting in the local polls across the country. Of them, 89,313 are males and 55,698 are females.
Of the 145,011 candidates vying for the various posts, only 35,221 candidates will be elected at the end.
How many political parties are participating in the election?
As many as 79 political parties were registered at the Election Commission. However, 14 of these parties did not file their nominations for the election. With this, as many as 65 political parties are participating in the polls.
More than 35,000 local representatives to be elected
As many as 35,000 local representatives will be elected in the ongoing local level polls. Of them, 753 will be elected as mayor and chairperson, 753 as deputy mayors and vice chairperson, 6,743 ward chairpersons, 6,743 female members, 6,743 Dalit female members and 13,486 ward members.
More than 100,000 officials and 260,000 security personnel mobilized
The government has deployed as many as 109,088 officials and 260,000 security personnel across the country for the local level polls. Besides, 65,865 volunteers are also contributing to the polls.
