POKHARA: CPN-UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has said that Madhav Kumar Nepal, who has formed a new party after a split from the CPN-UML, would return to the mother party.
At a press meet organised by the Kaski chapter of Press Chautari Nepal at Pokhara on Friday, leader Bhattarai said, "We signed the 10-point agreement in presence of Nepal. But he split the party without holding an adequate discussion in the party. It is not good. I urge other cadres not to join the CPN (Unified Socialist)."
He expressed the belief that a new generation would get leadership once the age limit of 70 years is implemented for holding executive posts of the party.
Leader Bhattarai opined that it was necessary to bring out the official opinion of the government on the issue of MCC.
He clarified that he would stand against the mass media bill tabled by the Gandaki Province Government as it would restrict independent journalism.
KATHMANDU, August 26: Following the split of CPN-UML, the positions of four UML lawmakers have now been in limbo.
After the Election Commission refused to verify four UML lawmakers who had joined the Madhav Nepal faction of the party, the position of these lawmakers is now uncertain.
Earlier on August 18, these lawmakers -- Som Prasad Pandey, Maya Gwayali, Tulsa Thap and Sharada Dei Bhatta -- had not signed the application filed by Madhav Kumar Nepal to register a new party at the poll body but later on August 24, they filled an application at the EC demanding to be verified as CPN (Unified Socialist).
The Election Commission on Wednesday refused their call.
Following the EC decision, these lawmakers are now compelled to remain in CPN-UML. They are sure to lose their position if they join CPN (Unified Socialist).
According to an official at the commission, they won’t lose their position if CPN-UML does not take action against them and if they do not join CPN (Unified Socialist).
However, CPN-UML is all set to take action against those leaders and lawmakers who joined CPN (Unified Socialist).
KATHMANDU, Aug 24: Leaders of the CPN-UML, who had been skipping party’s meetings after it was revived on March 7, joined the Standing Committee meeting on Tuesday.
The leaders were reported to be close to Madhav Kumar Nepal, who recently formed a new party --- NCP (Unified Socialist)---, opted not to join his party.
Tuesday’s meeting began at 3PM after making ‘necessary preparations’, at the Chyasal, Lalitpur-based Tulsilal Amatya Memorial Academy. The meeting was, however, scheduled to hold at 11PM on Tuesday.
The leaders of the ‘new camp’ in the party have been demanding the establishment faction implement the 10-point agreement endorsed by the ten-member task force formed in May. They held a meeting with party Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Monday where the latter agreed to address their concerns.
KATHMANDU, Aug 18: The main opposition CPN-UML has split into two as the party's senior leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal formed a new party called CPN-UML (Samajbadi).
The new party, which applied for its registration at the Election Commission on Wednesday, has proposed the election symbol of an ‘open book’.
A leader of the newly formed party, Metmani Chaudhary said that leaders including Rajendra Pandey reached the poll body and filed a petition to get registered.
Leader Npeal himself will lead the party as a coordinator.
The move of the faction comes shortly after President Biday Devi Bhandari issued an ordinance that amends the provision for party-split.
KATHMANDU, Aug 17: The main opposition party CPN-UML has sacked 14 lawmakers belonging to the party following the Sher Bahadur Deuba led government’s decision to introduce an ordinance amending provisions to split a political party.
The UML registered a letter at the Federal Parliament Secretariat seeking dismissal of their membership of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Tuesday.
Those relieved from their positions include Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Mukunda Neupane, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Kalyani Kumari Khadka, Laxmi Chaudhary, Nira Devi Jairu, Pushpa Kumari Karna, Sarala Kumari Yadav, Kalila Khatun, Birodh Khatiwada, Krishna Lal Maharjan, Bhawani Khapung and Metmani Chaudhary.
A source told Onlinekhabar that the Council of Ministers have decided to amend the Political Parties Act through which a party can split from another if it has 20 per cent members in the party's central or parliamentary committee. When the act was originally drafted, it did not mention a percentage.

KATHMANDU, July 22: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that he is ready to introduce dual presidential system in the party ‘for the sake of party unity’,
Addressing a Central Committee meeting held on Wednesday afternoon, Chairman Oli floated the proposal of designating Madhav Kumar Nepal, who is currently leading the dissident faction of the party, as the second chairman.
On the occasion, he also said that he is committed to implementing the 10-point deal that the ten-member taskforce, which comprised 5 members each from the Oli and Nepal faction. “I am ready to be flexible enough to keep the party unity intact.”
The party, however, dissolved the task force citing it accomplished its task.
He also said that all the party mechanisms will be resurrected as they were on May 16, 2018 once the party unity is ensured.
Oli, addressing the CC members close to his faction, revealed that leader Nepal had demanded the co-chairperson position.
“I am ready to make him the second chairman. However, is not interested in maintaining party unity,” he blamed Nepal.
Meanwhile, the UML, on Wednesday, also sent separate letters to its 22 lawmakers, who voted in favor of the confidence motion of Prime MInister Sher Bahadur Deuba, asking them to submit clarifications within 24 hours.
KATHMANDU, July 11: The ruling CPN UML has neared resolution of disputes which surfaced in the party for quite a while. The dispute resolution task force met in Singha Durbar on Saturday, thereby reaching near the conclusion.
Member of the taskforce representing the Madhav Nepal-led faction in the party, Gokarna Raj Bista, said they were close to the solution of problems that plagued the party. Now, only formality of the dispute resolution is left, he added. “A pleasant message of party unity will spread tomorrow. We've made rigorous efforts to forge consensus. Meaningful conclusion on party unity will be shared on Sunday,” he informed the media.
Bista further said the party unity would be announced to unite UML, protect communist movement, and address the aspirations of Nepali people.
Similarly, UML Vice-Chairperson Dr Bhim Bahadur Rawal also said the taskforce nearly reached the conclusion.
Saturday’s meeting was attended by leader Subash Nembang, Bishnu Prasad Poudel, Ghanashyam Bhushal, Pradip Kumar Gyawali, Surendra Pande and others.
KATHMANDU, May 13: The Standing Committee meeting of the CPN (UML) has revoked the suspension of four leaders including Madhav Kumar Nepal.
The meeting convened at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar, Kathmandu today decided to repeal the suspension of other leaders Bhim Rawal, Ghanashyam Bhusal and Surendra Prasad Pandey, informed CPN (UML) Office secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang.
The four leaders were suspended for six months from the party for not furnishing satisfactory clarification on their factional activities last March.
Tamang further informed that the Standing Committee meeting held to discuss on the issues of formation of new government and party’s internal disputes has decided to authorize party chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to unify the party.
