KATHMANDU, August 26: Following the split of CPN-UML, the positions of four UML lawmakers have now been in limbo.
After the Election Commission refused to verify four UML lawmakers who had joined the Madhav Nepal faction of the party, the position of these lawmakers is now uncertain.
Earlier on August 18, these lawmakers -- Som Prasad Pandey, Maya Gwayali, Tulsa Thap and Sharada Dei Bhatta -- had not signed the application filed by Madhav Kumar Nepal to register a new party at the poll body but later on August 24, they filled an application at the EC demanding to be verified as CPN (Unified Socialist).
The Election Commission on Wednesday refused their call.
Following the EC decision, these lawmakers are now compelled to remain in CPN-UML. They are sure to lose their position if they join CPN (Unified Socialist).
According to an official at the commission, they won’t lose their position if CPN-UML does not take action against them and if they do not join CPN (Unified Socialist).
However, CPN-UML is all set to take action against those leaders and lawmakers who joined CPN (Unified Socialist).
