Parliamentary secretariat in preparation for administering oath

KATHMANDU, Dec 19: The federal parliamentary-secretariat has intensified its preparation for administering oath of office to the newly-elected members of the House of Representatives (HoR).  Once the President administers oath of office and secrecy to the senior-most member among the newly-elected, other members would be sworn in later.  In order to identify the senior-most member, the secretariat has already sent a letter to the Election Commission (EC) requesting to furnish age details in this regard.  President Bidya Devi Bhandari has called upon the parties to present their claim for Prime Minister in seven days within December 25.  Among the newly-elected members, the age details of Chitra Bahadur KC, Mahantha Thakur, Mahendra Roy Yadav and Pashupati Shumsher Rana seem to be scrutinized.  If any member wishes to take oath of office in their own mother language, s/he shall arrange translation of the oath paper into the concerned language and inform the parliament-secretariat three days before the oath-taking ceremony.  According to the information provided by the secretariat, as many as 36 members had taken oath in 11 mother languages (excluding Nepali) after the House of Representatives election, 2074 BS. The members, as informed, were administered with oath of office in Maithili, Tharu, Bhojpuri, Magar, Hindi, Abadhi, Nepali Bhasha, Banjika, Newari, Urdu and Tamang languages.  The secretariat would also offer a logo to the newly-elected members of the HoR on the oath-taking ceremony. Each logo is prepared at the cost of Rs 5,800.  Though the swearing-in day has yet to be fixed, the ceremony would be held at the parliament building in New Baneshwor within five days.  Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Dr Rojnath Pandey said the members would be provided with a bag containing the Constitution, diary, pen, parliamentary regulation, directives and other publications. KATHMANDU: Newly elected office bearers of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) including Chairman Rajendra Lingden and central committee members took oath of office and secrecy amid an event organized in the capital on Sunday.  Coordinator of the party's election committee, Hari Bahadur Basnet administered oath to the office bearers including chairman, four vice-chairs and three general secretaries. Chairman Lingden administered the oath to the members of the central committee in the oath-taking ceremony held at the National Academy.  Earlier, Lingden was declared victorious as the party chairman in the election results released on Sunday morning.  Nearly 4,000 delegates voted for a new executive committee on Saturday.  Defeating Thapa with a margin of 227 votes, Rajendra Lingden, 56, was elected chairman of the pro-Hindu party.  Lingden, the only lawmaker of the party in the federal parliament, secured as many as 1,844 votes out of 3,873 total votes. His contender, Thapa managed to win 1,617 votes, according to Hari Bahadur Basnet, party’s election officer. Newly appointed Province 2 Governor Mishra takes oath of office and secrecy

KATHMANDU, August 17: Newly appointed Province Chief of Province 2, Hari Shankar  Mishra took an oath of office and secrecy on Tuesday. Mishra was sworn-in as the chief of Province 2 amid an event at the President Office at Sithalniwas. According to a press statement issued by the President Office, President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath to  Mishra as per Article 167 of the Constitution of Nepal. The event was attended by Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Speaker of the lower house of parliament, Agni Prasad Sapkota and Chairman of National Assembly Ganesh Timilsina among others. A cabinet meeting held earlier on Monday has recommended President Bhandari to appoint Minshra as the chief of Province 2.

Prime Minister to take oath of office today

KATHMANDU, May 14: Newly-appointed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is taking oath of office and secrecy today.  President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday re-appointed him the Prime Minster in the capacity of the leader of the largest party when two or more than two political parties in the House of Representatives (HoR) failed to show majority in the race.  According to the President Office, re-appointed Prime Minster Oli is scheduled to take oath of office at 2.30 pm this afternoon. The first phase of cabinet expansion will also take place today.  The President on May 9 had called for the two or more than two political parties to present the claim for a new prime minister with a majority of the members of HoR within Thursday 9.00 pm as per the Article 76 (2) of the Nepal Constitution.  Though main opposition Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) attempted to gather support from majority of HoR members it was not materialized in the stipulated period. With the expiration of the given period, Oli was appointed as the prime minister in the capacity of the leader of the largest party in the parliament as per the Article 76 (3).

Speaker administers oath to HoR member Janaki Devi

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed House of Representatives (HoR) member Janaki Devi Ram. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Singha Durbar-based Federal Parliament Secretariat.  The HoR seat of proportional representation (dalit) quota had been lying vacant since the demise of Sanu Shiwa on 20 October, 2020. The Parliament Secretariat was apprised by the Election Commission that Shiwa was elected towards the PR dalit quota. As per the constitutional provision, the HoR member should take oath before attending the parliament meeting.  On the occasion, the Speaker handed an official logo of HoR to Janaki Devi and wished her a successful tenure.
