MCC will be passed without any amendments: PM Deuba

KAILALI, Oct 22: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the American aid project, Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC), will be passed by parliament. Speaking at a press conference in Dhangadhi after inspecting the disaster-struck regions in Sudurpaschim Province, PM Deuba said that the MCC will be passed by parliament as it will be under the purview of Nepal’s laws.

KATHMANDU, March 11: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged the construction firms to be ready for tender of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)-Nepal compact. “The government has already ratified the compact and soon a public tender will be announced at an international level,” said PM Deuba. “As the United States of America and Nepal both are involved in the compact, contractors from the countries will be invited to bid for the project,” PM Deuba said. The MCC-Nepal compact, $500 million grant, aims to build electricity transmission lines and expand the roads. After a huge public outcry and political differences, the government recently ratified the compact with an interpretative declaration.

UML’s demands will be addressed if it stands together with NC for MCC: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU, Feb 24: Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress (NC), Sher Bahadur Deuba urged the Chairman of the main opposition party, CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli to stand together with the party for the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC). During his meeting with Oli on Thursday, PM Deuba also maintained that the government will address UML’s demands if it stands together with NC to ratify the MCC in parliament. “MCC is now a national issue. Issues of the coalition and remaining in the government are secondary,” said Gagan Thapa, General Secretary of the NC. PM Deuba has also maintained that remaining in power is minor for him. Meanwhile, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal is currently holding a meeting with Oli. The ruling alliance is on the verge of a split as the members of the alliance share different positions regarding MCC. The Nepali Congress wants the MCC to be ratified at any cost, while the CPN (MC) and CPN (Unified Socialist) are opposing the agreement in its existing form.

KATHMANDU, Feb 17: It has been learnt that the Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba has granted three options to Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) regarding the ratification of the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC). Dahal, who is the chairman of the key coalition partner of PM Deuba-led government, has opposed the government’s move to table the MCC in parliament for ratification. Following the government’s decision to table the $500 million American grant in parliament, the two leaders have remained busy holding discussions and meetings. The leaders hold a discussion on Wednesday and Thursday morning. During the meeting, after both leaders remained reluctant on their decision, PM Deuba granted Dahal three options. KATHMANDU, Feb 17: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has maintained that no one should be afraid to stand in the favor of the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC). The PM’s remarks came at the time when the government is all set to table the $500 million American grant that requires parliament ratification in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Friday. “Once the MCC is tabled, I will accept the results positively whether it is passed or failed,” PM Deuba said, adding that the government has already taken the decision to table the compact in parliament. Similarly, PM Deuba also stated that the MCC is in favor of the country and he is doing his best to get it ratified through parliament. Besides, a meeting of the ruling alliance is scheduled to be held on Thursday at 5 PM to take the final decision regarding the ratification of the MCC. After receiving words that the United States of America (USA) may review its diplomatic ties with Nepal if iNepal fails to ratify the compact, the MCC has become a burning issue in the country in the recent days.

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Prime Minister and President of the Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba reached Balkot, in Bhaktapur earlier this morning to hold discussion with the Chairman of the main opposition party CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli. A meeting of the ruling alliance held on Friday had urged PM Deuba to initiate meetings with Oli and find a solution to the continuous obstruction of the opposition party in parliament. Following the meeting, PM Deuba has reached Balkot to discuss and find a solution to the house stalemate with UML Chair Oli. According to Govinda Pariyar, the press advisor of PM Deuba, two leaders held discussions about house obstruction and its solution. PM Deuba also urged Oli for solidarity in parliament regarding the ratification of the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) compact. The main opposition party, CPN-UML has been continuously obstructing the house proceedings and meetings accusing Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota of supporting leader Madhav Kumar Nepal to register a new party after the UML took action against him and his followers.
