PM Deuba visits UML Chair Oli

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Prime Minister and President of the Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba reached Balkot, in Bhaktapur earlier this morning to hold discussion with the Chairman of the main opposition party CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli. A meeting of the ruling alliance held on Friday had urged PM Deuba to initiate meetings with Oli and find a solution to the continuous obstruction of the opposition party in parliament. Following the meeting, PM Deuba has reached Balkot to discuss and find a solution to the house stalemate with UML Chair Oli. According to Govinda Pariyar, the press advisor of PM Deuba, two leaders held discussions about house obstruction and its solution. PM Deuba also urged Oli for solidarity in parliament regarding the ratification of the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) compact.  The main opposition party, CPN-UML has been continuously obstructing the house proceedings and meetings accusing Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota of supporting leader Madhav Kumar Nepal to register a new party after the UML took action against him and his followers.

Oli will dissolve the local government as well if UML wins: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU, May 9: Prime Minister (PM) Sher Bahadur Deuba has maintained that Chairman of CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli will dissolve the local level government as well if the UML wins the local level election. Addressing a public gathering of the ruling alliance at Dhangadhi on Monday, PM Deuba said that if Oli can dissolve the federal parliament then he can surely do the same for the local government. “KP Oli dissolved parliament twice unconstitutionally. What do you want to get after making UML win? Parliament dissolution?,” Deuba questioned. PM Deuba also maintained that to let UML win is to give a mandate to dissolve parliament and government. Besides, PM Deuba said that the government will give a top most priority to Sudurpaschim Province during budget allocation for infrastructural development. Likewise, Deuba also urged the rebel candidates of the alliance to withdraw their candidacy, issuing a press statement or face action.

PM Deuba seeks collective efforts to tackle COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 15: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged one and all to put joint efforts to combat the recent wave of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.  After receiving a memorandum handed over by the main opposition CPN-UML on Saturday, PM Deuba said that a collective endeavor is required to beat the third wave of infectious disease.  UML delegation headed by Vice-chair Subash Chandra Nembang handed over the memorandum regarding prevention and treatment against the deadly disease.

KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is currently in self-isolation after the chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal tested positive for COVID-19. PM Deuba is in isolation after CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' tested positive for COVID-19, according to the PM’s secretariat. Both PM Deuba and Dahal were present in a meeting of the ruling alliance and high level political coordination committee held in Baluwatar two days ago. PM Deuba and other top leaders of the ruling parties were identified as contacts of Dahal after the latter tested positive for the virus. Maoist Centre leaders Narayankaji Shrestha, Haribol Gajurel, Matrika Yadav, Dor Prasad Upadhyay, Ram Prasad Sapkota, Ramesh Malla and others have also tested positive for COVID-19. Similarly, on Saturday, PM Deuba held a meeting with UML Chair Oli. In this view, UML Chair Oli is also among contacts of Dahal and Deuba.

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: A meeting between Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Chairperson of the main opposition party, CPN (UML), KP Sharma Oli took place at the latter's residence in Balkot, Bhaktapur, on Saturday morning.  PM Deuba reached the residence of chair Oli at around 10:30 AM.  It is said that the one-on-one talk between the two leaders focused on issues including ending the ongoing parliament deadlock Prime Minister Deuab reached the Oli residence in Balkot after the UML remained absent in an all-party meeting called earlier by PM Deuba to discuss ways out to end the parliament obstruction.  Earlier, NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel, also coordinator of the high-level mechanism formed to help run the incumbent government, reached leader Oli residence in Balkot and held a discussion with him.  The UML has been continuously obstructing the parliament session putting forth various demands.

PM Deuba to hold talks with UML Chair Oli to end House stalemate

KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is preparing to hold talks with CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma regarding the ways out to resolve the prolonged House stalemate.  A ruling alliance’s coordination committee meeting held on Friday authorized PM Deuba to initiate talks with the leader of the main opposition amid ongoing House obstruction.  According to Durga Poudel, vice-chair of Rastriya Janamorcha, one of the five coalition partners, Deuba will soon visit COli at the latter’s residence in Balkot to discuss the House deadlock.  A Nepali Congress (NC) leader, Ram Chandra Poudel had a meeting with Oli on Wednesday. It was during the meeting with Poudel, Oli indicated that he wanted to hold talks with PM Deuba.  Poudel, who presides over the high-level coordination committee formed by the ruling alliance, held a meeting to initiate dialogues to end the ongoing stalemate.  The main opposition obstructed all meetings of the House of Representatives (HoR) since the summer session resumed on September 8. Similarly, it has been obstructing the winter session of the lower house of parliament that kicked off on December 14, demanding Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota suspend its 14 lawmakers which it had sacked on August 17.  The lawmakers, led by Madhav Kumar Nepal, however, registered a new party --- CPN (Unified Socialist) later on August 25.

UML leader Khanal urges party lawmakers to give trust vote to PM Deuba

KATHMANDU, July 18: CPN (UML) senior leader Jhalanath Khanal has urged party lawmakers to give a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.  There is a need to save the House of Representatives (HoR) by giving the trust vote to PM Deuba in the context when the court on July 12 reinstated the dissolved lower house, said the former Prime Minister in a statement today. It may be noted that a section of lawmakers from the UML had filed a writ petition along with Deuba in the Supreme Court, seeking the reinstatement of the HoR.   Leader Khanal is currently receiving treatment in India. The government led by Deuba should be allowed to complete remaining tenure of the five-year HoR or the country would plunge into a crisis, reads the statement.  Thirty-three lawmakers from the UML including Khanal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal supported Deuba to the prime ministerial post.  He also urged party unification ideologically and politically according to the 10-point agreement struck on July 11. The UML has already institutionally decided to remain in the opposition.
