CPN (Maoist Centre) to elect its PP leader only after swearing-in ceremony

KATHMÀNDU, Dec 20: The CPN (Maoist Centre) would elect its parliamentary party leader only after an oath-taking ceremony of newly elected members of the House of Representatives.  According to lawmaker and party leader, Madhav Sapkota, the decision regarding the election to the parliamentary party leader and formation of a new government will only be taken after the swearing-in ceremony.   "There is no dispute in our party regarding the PP leader.  Party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' is the PP leader," said Sapkota. The Federal Parliament Secretariat has scheduled an oath-taking ceremony for newly elected HoR members on December 22.   The CPN (Maoist Centre) has a total 32 members—18 elected under first-past-the-post and 14 under proportional representation in the Lower House.

No possibility of merger between CPN (US) and Maoist Center: Madhav Nepal

KATHMANDU: Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that there is no possibility of merger between CPN (US) and CPN (Maoist Center). Assuming the office as the parliamentary party leader of the CPN (US) at the PP office, Singha Durbar on Thursday, Chairman Nepal claimed that his party with revolutionary thoughts will not merge itself into the Maoist Center.  “This party has been formed after a revolt against the autocracy of KP Oli,” he said.  On a different note, Nepal said that the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led Cabinet is less likely to be expanded before September 8.

Kul Prasad KC appointed chief minister of Lumbini Province

BUTWAL, Aug 12: Kul Prasad KC, the parliamentary party leader of the CPN (Maoist Center) has been appointed as the chief minister of Lumbini Province.  Province Chief Amik Sherchan appointed KC as the chief minister as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.  Following the resignation of erstwhile Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel on Wednesday, Governor Sherchan asked the political parties representing in the provincial assembly to stake claim for a coalition government by 3 PM, Thursday.  An alliance of Maoist Center, Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha proposed the name of KC to succeed Pokharel.
