Rastriya Janamorcha relieves Gandaki Province lawmaker Thapa of parliamentary party leader

POKHARA, May 12: Rastriya Janamorcha has taken disciplinary action against a party’s member at Gandaki Province Assembly, Krishna Thapa, citing that he breached the party directives.  Lawmaker Thapa, who was also the parliamentary party leader in the province, was relieved of his position, wrote party’s General Secretary Manoj Bhatta in a letter sent to the Speaker of Gandaki Province assembly. “A letter will be submitted to the province assembly secretariat informing about the party decision,” Bhatta added.  Thapa said that he would not support an alliance of opposition parties including Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) though a parliamentary party meeting chaired by him on April 25 had decided to form a new government. Meanwhile, Thapa has left Pokhara at a time when the deadline to hand over signatures for the formation of a new government to Gandaki Province Chief Sita Kumari Poudel.

Kul Prasad KC appointed chief minister of Lumbini Province

BUTWAL, Aug 12: Kul Prasad KC, the parliamentary party leader of the CPN (Maoist Center) has been appointed as the chief minister of Lumbini Province.  Province Chief Amik Sherchan appointed KC as the chief minister as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.  Following the resignation of erstwhile Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel on Wednesday, Governor Sherchan asked the political parties representing in the provincial assembly to stake claim for a coalition government by 3 PM, Thursday.  An alliance of Maoist Center, Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha proposed the name of KC to succeed Pokharel.

Lumbini Province to get new chief minister today

BUTWAL, Aug 12: A day after the Chief Minister resigned from his post on Wednesday, Lumbini Province is all set to get a new chief minister on Thursday.  Following CM Pokharel’s resignation, Governor Amik Sherchan asked the political parties to stake claim for a new government formation by 3PM on Thursday as per Article 168 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal.  The opposition alliance, which comprises the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM), is preparing to propose Kul Prasad KC, parliamentary party leader of the Maoist Center as the new chief minister to succeed ruling CPN-UML’s Shankar Pokharel. According to Tularam Gharti Magar, Maoist Center’s chief whip, KC is likely to be appointed the chief minister by Thursday evening.  The alliance is also preparing to form a small-sized Cabinet under KC’s chief ministership. “The Cabinet will be given its full shape once he [Kul Prasad KC] wins the provincial assembly’s confidence,” a leader of the alliance told Ratopati.

Caretaker Gandaki CM also stakes claim for new govt formation

POKHARA, June 12: Despite losing a trust motion on Thursday, caretaker chief minister of Gandaki Province, Prithvi Subba Gurung has staked his claim for the formation of a new government in the province.  Gurung reached the Office of Province Chief and submitted a letter to Province Chief Sita Kumari Poudel claiming that he has the support of members of the ruling CPN-UML, Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).  The members of RJM and JSP, however, signed in the letter to support Krishna Chandra Nepali, parliamentary party leader of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC).  As many as 31 provincial assembly members including Nepali reached the Office of Province Chief in person and submitted the claim on Friday.  Nepali is said to have the support of 11 members belonging to the CPN (Maoist Center), 2 of Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) and 3 of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) along with the 15 members of the NC.  Province Chief Sita Kumari Poudel, on Friday, invited the members of the assembly to stake claim for new government formation after Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung lost a confidence motion on Thursday. Any member, who can muster the support of the majority of members in the province assembly, can submit his/her claim for the position of chief minister by 3PM Saturday.

Krishna Chandra Pokharel appointed Gandaki chief minister

POKHARA, June 12: Gandaki Province Chief Sita Kumari Poudel has appointed Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel as the chief minister of the province.  As the deadline to stake claim for new government formation expired at 3PM on Saturday, Pokharel, parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) was appointed as the chief minister as per the Article 168 (5) of the constitution.  He staked claim for the government on Friday with the support of 31 members of the 60-member Gandaki Province Assembly. Along with the NC’s 15, CPN (Maoist Center)’s 11, Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM)’s 2 of 3 and 2 of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) signed in the letter, submitted to Province Chief Poudel, to support Pokharel as the new chief minister. Similarly, an independent lawmaker also extended his support to CM Pokharel.   As many as 31 provincial assembly members including Nepali reached the Office of Province Chief in person and submitted the claim on Friday.  Despite losing a trust motion on Thursday, caretaker chief minister of Gandaki Province, Prithvi Subba Gurung alo staked his claim for the formation of a new government in the province, on Saturday..  Gurung reached the Office of Province Chief and submitted a letter to Governor Poudel claiming that he has the support of members of the ruling CPN-UML, Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).  Pokharel will now have to win a confidence motion within the 30 days of the date of his appointment as per Article 168 (6).
