KATHMANDU, March 17: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has wished happiness, peace and prosperity to all the brothers and sisters living at home and abroad on the auspicious occasion of the great festival of Nepalis, Phagu Purnima or Holi. In a message today, President Bhandari has said unity among diversity has become the identity and strength of us Nepalis and that it will contribute to further strengthening national unity by enhancing mutual love, harmony and tolerance among all Nepalis. "The uniqueness of our culture can be preserved only by integrating history, civilization and mythology associated with each festival. May the Holi festival inspire all of us to build a just society, ”the President said in the message. In a similar message, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has expressed confidence that this year's Holi festival would further spread social harmony and strengthen national unity.  Extending best wishes for happiness, peace, harmony, prosperity and continuous progress to all Nepali brothers and sisters on the occasion of Phagu Purnima and Holi, the Vice President also expressed confidence that the Holi Festival 2078 BS would inspire all to hold the local elections as a celebration. Children of 5 to 11 age group will be vaccinated soon: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has announced to commence the COVID-19 vaccination campaign to the children between 5 to 11 age group soon.  More than 1.8 million adults between the 12 to 17 age group received the first dose and the drive to administer booster dose to those fighting against the virus on the frontline was on, said the PM in his address to the nation on Friday. Similarly, people above 60 years of age would be administered booster doses within this month.  Saving people's lives from the virus, economic revival at a speedy pace and returning socio-economic activities to normalcy have been put on government’s first priority, he said while claiming that expansion of economic activities of the country had been expedited in the past six months and there had been expected reforms in social activities. The policy to provide concessional loans, tax exemption and other facilities to the industries producing COVID-19 vaccines and liquid oxygen has been implemented, he reminded.   There have been extensive reforms in infrastructural development in government hospitals dealing with the virus and their upgrading has continued.  Efforts to prevent and control the Omicron variant have been made more effective and there is a smooth oxygen supply with adequate stock, PM Deuba said.

He had wished all peace, prosperity, good health and longevity.  In a message of best wishes today, Prime Minister Deuba has argued that unity in diversity and social amity were instances of our cultural practices. Deuba asserted that Chhat festival was an exemplary festival that has helped foster goodwill and unity among all Nepalis.  The festival which is observed as a common cultural symbol in the Terai area has expanded across the country. Our cultures and traditions have their own district identity, said the PM in the message. He urged all the Nepalis to celebrate Chhath by observing precautions against the COVID-19 since there was still risk.  Appealing one and all to observe the festival with fervor, the PM wished that this festival may further augment the feelings of mutual goodwill and tolerance.

Nepal-US relations to be further strengthened: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU, July 15: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the friendship and partnership between Nepal and the United States of America would be further strengthened during his new tenure. PM Deuba said this during a meeting with US Ambassador to Nepal, Randy Berry, at his residence this morning, the Prime Minister's Secretariat said. Matters relating to Nepal-US relations and cooperation, including medical support, were exchanged during the meeting.  The US ambassador had congratulated PM Deuba on Tuesday through social media. Nepali Congress president and parliamentary party leader Deuba took the oath of office and secrecy on Tuesday.
