Supreme Court allows two UML lawmakers to join CPN (Unified Socialist)
With the court’s decision, CPN (Unified Socialist) will have 24 lawmakers in the lower house and will become the third largest party in the upper house with eight members.

KATHMANDU, Aug 2: The Supreme Court on Monday validated the decision of the main opposition CPN-UML to expel the four members of Karnali Province Assembly.
Vacating its interim order, a joint bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana and Justice Prakash Kumar Dhungana, validated the action taken against four lawmakers ---- Prakash Jwala, Nanda Singh Budha, Kurma Raj Shahi and Ammar Bahadur Thapa.
The four members, who were elected as the province assembly members during the elections held in 2017, were relieved of their membership of the Karnali Province Assembly after they defied the party whip and voted in favor of Chief Minister Mahendr Bahadur Shahi’s trust motion.
A single bench of Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, however, annulled the action taken by the party’s erstwhile 10th General Convention Organizing Committee.
An interim order issued by the Supreme Court against the decision of the CPN-UML to expel four of its members in Karnali Provincial Assembly has been repealed.
KATHMANDU, June 8: The Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order on the writ petitions filed against the recent regic of the Council of the Ministers.
A single bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, on Tuesday, issued, however, issued a show-cause order in the name of the defendant.
Hearing the writ petitions, the bench ordered both the sides to be present before the court on June 22.
Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi and advocates Kanchan Krishna Neupane, Raj Kumar Suwal, Shalikram Sapkota, Sita Devi Shrestha and Birendra Prasas Shah, on Monday, registered a writ petition arguing that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, as the caretaker prime minister, could not make changes in his Cabinet.
The petitioners demanded the court nullify the reshuffle and issue an interim order.
PM Oli made several changes in his Cabinet on Friday relieving some of the ministers from his party, CPN-UML while picking ten others from the Thakur faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).
KATHMANDU, May 27: Hearing on the writ petitions registered at the Supreme Court against the dissolution of the House of the Representatives (HoR) has begun today. The hearing is taking place at the single bench of the Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana.
The hearing is underway on the 19 writs registered at the apex court seeking interim order against the dissolution of the HoR.
However, other 11 writ petitions assigned at the Constitutional Bench will begin on Friday. The hearing of the writ petition registered by the outgoing 146 lawmakers is also scheduled for Friday.
The 26 writs have demanded for restoration of the parliament while four have demanded for the reappointment of KP Sharma Oli to the post of the Prime Minister.
The four writ petitions have demanded reappointment of CPN (UML) Parliamentary Party leader Oli as Prime Minister.
One hundred forty six outgoing lawmakers including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairperson of CPN (Maoist Centre), the then leader of CPN (UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairperson of Janata Samajwadi Party Upendra Yadav and leader of Rastriya Janamorcha Durga Poudel have demanded that NC leader Deuba becomes new Prime Minister.
The writ petition filed by the lawmakers has demanded that NC leader Deuba becomes new PM in line with Article 76 (5) of the constitution and the HoR be reinstated.
Other demands include annulment of President’s dissolution of the HoR on May 22 on the Cabinet recommendations and the President’s act should be termed unconstitutional and illegal.
The rival group led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal in the ruling CPN-UML has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on Thursday demanding an order that stops the parliamentary party from removing them as lawmakers.
