The rival group led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal in the ruling CPN-UML has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on Thursday demanding an order that stops the parliamentary party from removing them as lawmakers.

Nepal will return to CPN (UML): leader Bhattarai

POKHARA, September 17: CPN (UML) Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has argued that Madhav Kumar Nepal, who has formed a new party after a split from the CPN (UML), would return to the mother party.  At a press meet organised by Kaski chapter of Press Chautari Nepal at Pokhara today, leader Bhattarai said, "We signed the 10-point agreement in presence of Nepal. But he split the party without holding adequate discussion in the party. It is not good. I urge other cadres not to join the CPN (Unified Socialist)."  He expressed the belief that a new generation would get leadership once the age limit of 70 years is implemented for holding executive posts of the party.  Leader Bhattarai opined that it was necessary to bring out the official opinion of the government on the issue of MCC.  He clarified that he would stand against the mass media bill tabled by Gandaki province government as it would restrict the independent journalism.

Oli, Nepal to make first public addresses after UML split

KATHMANDU, August 19: Chairperson of CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli and Madhav Kumar Nepal are scheduled to make  public addressesin separate events on Thursday afternoon. While Oli will be addressing as the Chairperson of CPN-UML, Nepal will make his first public address as chairperson of CPN-UML (Samajbadi).  Oli will be addressing a program organised by the District Committee, Bhaktapur at Chunadevi while Nepal will be addressing an event at Kathmandu. Nepal will be accompanied by Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Dr Baburam Bhattarai, former Prime Minister and Federal Council Chair of Janata Samajbadi Party.

UML splits, Madhav Nepal-led UML (Samajbadi) formed

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: The main opposition CPN-UML has split into two as the party's senior leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal formed a new party called CPN-UML (Samajbadi). The new party, which applied for its registration at the Election Commission on Wednesday, has proposed the election symbol of an ‘open book’.  A leader of the newly formed party, Metmani Chaudhary said that leaders including Rajendra Pandey reached the poll body and filed a petition to get registered.  Leader Npeal himself will lead the party as a coordinator.  The move of the faction comes shortly after President Biday Devi Bhandari issued an ordinance that amends the provision for party-split.

UML leader Nepal preparing to register new party

KATHMANDU, August 18: Senior Leader of CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal has begun preparations to register a new political party. Following the party’s decision to sack 14 lawmakers of the party including Nepal himself on Tuesday, Nepal is now all set to register a new political party within a few days. “KP Sharma Oli is less likely to correct himself. Therefore, we are preparing to register a new party," said Jaganath Kathiwada, a central committee member of the Nepal-led faction of UML. Leaders close to Nepal maintain that Oli has given them no other option than registering a new party. “Oli has shut all the doors for the party unification. We are left with no other alternatives than registering our own party,” said Nepal. Earlier on Tuesday, the government introduced an ordinance that allows political parties to split if 20 percent members either in the central committee or parliamentary party of a political party are in favor of it. Following the government’s move, CPN-UML sacked its 14 lawmakers and expanded its central committee members from 203 to 260.

UML CC meet called by Nepal faction put off
