Representatives of Canadian universities and colleges to visit Nepal

KATHMANDU, June 20: Representatives from 24 prominent Canadian universities and colleges will be highlighting education opportunities in Canada during the first EduCanada Mission to Kathmandu, Nepal dated for June 27-29, 2022.  The participating universities and colleges will highlight the courses they offer, scholarships, information on student experience, accessibility, affordability, and career paths to potential students from Nepal.  The EduCanada Mission provides an opportunity for Nepalese students, education consultants, school/college principals and other key influencers to interact with representatives of Canadian educational institutions and Government of Canada officials.  The Mission also offers a platform to gain knowledge about studying and living in Canada, student visas, the Canadian business environment, and future prospects upon graduation. Program highlights include: the EduCanada ‘Study in Canada’ Seminar on June 28, that will be open for students, parents, education consultants and school counselors from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Soaltee Kathmandu.  Additionally, there will be seminars during the delegation’s visits to schools and colleges in Kathmandu, education roundtables with consultants, as well as meetings with government officials and academic institutions.

Schools, colleges shut in India's Uttar Pradesh state amid heavy rains

NEW DELHI, September 17: India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday announced shutting down all schools and colleges for the next two days amid incessant rains for more than 24 hours, leading to a floods-like situation. A red alert has been sounded in many districts, even as the state government advised people not to venture out of their homes and avoid unnecessary travel for the next couple of days. Heavy rains, up to 100 millimeters, have been recorded in several districts of the state, including Sultanpur, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Sitapur and Ayodhya, leading to floods-like situations in most parts. More than 10 people have died in rain-related incidents, said media reports. The state government also issued a warning about strong winds up to 80 kilometers per hour, with thunderstorms and lightning incidents over the next couple of days. A local resident from the Sitapur told Xinhua over the phone that the incessant rains have hit places around him for over 20 hours amid stormy winds.

SC orders medical colleges not to enroll more students than given seats

KATHMANDU, August 13: The Supreme Court (SC) has given directive order to the medical colleges not to enroll more students that the given seats from the Nepal Medical Council. In case the medical colleges received more students, they are directed to adjust such number of seats under scholarship scheme in the next academic academic session, reads the verdict given by a division bench of Justices Anil Kumar Sinha and Tej Bahadur KC. Likewise, the SC has ordered to carry out inspection and monitoring to confirm the implementation of the verdict. Furthermore, the court has ordered to assess the impartiality and work performance of the officials deployed to monitor the medical colleges.
