UML, RPP to forge electoral alliance in Bharatpur metropolis

KATHMANDU, April 25: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, and Rajendra Lingden-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), have agreed to forge an electoral alliance in Bharatpur metropolis for the upcoming local level election. As per the agreement, the UML has decided to share seats in the metropolis with RPP that includes the post of deputy mayor, two posts of ward chairperson and a few posts of members. “An electoral alliance has been forged and RPP will get the post of deputy mayor and post of ward chairperson and members,” said Bikram Pandey, RPP leader. The UML has already decided to field the candidacy of Bijay Subedi for the post of mayor of the metropolis while the ruling alliance is fielding Renu Dahal, CPN (Maoist Center)’s leader, for the next term.

KATHMANDU, April 18: As the local level election is on our doorsteps, both the ruling alliance and the main opposition party are busy forging an electoral alliance. Earlier, the CPN-UML had been maintaining that the party would contest in the election against the ruling alliance solely. However, in recent days, UML seems busy building alliances with other small parties. As the ruling Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha Party have announced an electoral alliance in the upcoming local election, the main opposition party, UML, Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Ek Nath Dhakal-led Pariwar Dal, Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, CK Raut-led Janamath Party, Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal, Narayanman Bijukchhe-led Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party, Hridayesh Tripathi-led Janata Pragatisheel Party and a fraction of Nepali Congress-led by Govinda Raj Joshi are preparing to forge a similar alliance, according to UML leaders. Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Ek Nath Dhakal-led Pariwar Dal have already decided to contest in the upcoming local polls using UML’s election symbol. Likewise, the UML is all set to offer a similar choice to the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal. KP Oli-led UML and Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal have already agreed on forging an electoral alliance at Makwanpur, Chitwan, Kaski, Mahottari and Parsa districts. Likewise, UML is preparing to forge a similar alliance with the Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajbadi Party in districts of Madhesh Province and a few districts of Lumbini Province. Similarly, UML and the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal are joining hands in some districts of Sudur Paschim Province, Lumbini Province and Karnali Province. Also, the party is looking forward to an alliance with Narayanman Bijukchhe-led Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party in Karnali Province and in Tanahu with a fraction of Nepali Congress-led by Govinda Raj Joshi.

Chand-led NCP positive on forging electoral alliance with UML in Sudurpaschim

KATHMANDU, April 5: Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party is positive in forging an electoral alliance with the main opposition party, CPN-UML in the upcoming local level elections in Sudurpaschim Province. The party has also begun discussions in this regard. The two parties are preparing to forge an electoral alliance as per the local needs. According to Om Prakash Pun, central committee member of NCP, discussions are underway as the UML leaders have proposed forging an electoral alliance. “The parties have yet to make an official decision,” he added. The ruling coalition of Nepali Congress, CPN( Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha Party have already decided to forge an electoral alliance in the upcoming local level election.

Members of ruling coalition decide to form an electoral alliance in Chitwan

KATHMANDU, April 4: Members of the ruling coalition have decided to form an electoral alliance in all the local units in Chitwan district including Bharatpur Metropolitan city in the upcoming local polls. The CPN (Maoist Center) has claimed the post of Mayor in Bharatpur Metropolis. However, the coalition members are yet to make a decision in this regard. A meeting of the coalition members held at Nepali Congress Party Office at Chitwan on Monday took a decision to form an electoral alliance in all local units in the upcoming local level election. The coalition members are now preparing a joint strategy for the same. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN-UML and Rastriya Janamorcha Party. Chitwan district comprises seven local units.

Ruling alliance to form electoral alliance against UML in Makwanpur

KATHMANDU, April 3: The ruling alliance has agreed to form an electoral alliance against the main opposition party, CPN-UML, in Makwanpur district in the upcoming local level election. As per the local level elections, 2074 BS, the CPN-UML was the largest party in the district. The party had won six out of seven local units in the district which included six posts of mayor and eight of deputy-mayor. In the same election, Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center), who had formed an electoral alliance in three local units, were defeated in two local units. As the new local level elections are on our door steps, the ruling alliance that includes, Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajbadi Party, have agreed to form an electoral alliance against CPN-UML. With this, it is likely that UML has to face the ruling alliance solely in the upcoming local election. The ruling alliance has decided to form an electoral alliance at ward level as well. A meeting of the coalition parties held at Nepali Congress Party Office, Makwanpur took a decision to this effect. There are a total of 10 local governments with 102 wards. Of these 10 local units, CPN (US) is likely to claim four local units. The party has maintained that two local representatives who were victorious in the earlier election representing CPN-UML have now joined the CPN (US), so the party must at least be given a chance to field candidacy in four local units.
