KATHMANDU, April 3: The ruling alliance has agreed to form an electoral alliance against the main opposition party, CPN-UML, in Makwanpur district in the upcoming local level election.
As per the local level elections, 2074 BS, the CPN-UML was the largest party in the district. The party had won six out of seven local units in the district which included six posts of mayor and eight of deputy-mayor. In the same election, Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center), who had formed an electoral alliance in three local units, were defeated in two local units.
As the new local level elections are on our door steps, the ruling alliance that includes, Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajbadi Party, have agreed to form an electoral alliance against CPN-UML.
With this, it is likely that UML has to face the ruling alliance solely in the upcoming local election.
The ruling alliance has decided to form an electoral alliance at ward level as well. A meeting of the coalition parties held at Nepali Congress Party Office, Makwanpur took a decision to this effect.
There are a total of 10 local governments with 102 wards. Of these 10 local units, CPN (US) is likely to claim four local units. The party has maintained that two local representatives who were victorious in the earlier election representing CPN-UML have now joined the CPN (US), so the party must at least be given a chance to field candidacy in four local units.
