Judicial Council Member Nirala dies of Corona Virus

KATHMANDU, May 4: Member of Judicial Council and Senior Advocate Laxmi Bahadur Khadka ‘Nirala’ passed away today. He was 77. Also a former Attorney General, Khadka was admitted to the Armed Police Hospital, Balambu, on April 23 after he tested positive for corona virus. Spokesperson of the Council, Man Bahadur Karki, shared that Khadka died of Corona Virus infection. Khadka has a great contribution to the country’s law and judicial sector. He was appointed as the member of Judicial Council some 16 months ago.

Tourism entrepreneurs demand vaccination

POKHARA, May 23: The Pokhara Tourism Council has drawn the attention of the government towards protecting the lives of the people by immediately bringing in COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccination is inevitable as the second wave of the Corona Virus pandemic has severely impacted the people and their day-to-day life. Issuing a statement on Saturday, the Council has demanded that the government protect the right of the citizens to live, by giving first priority to their health in the present situation. As the tourism sector has suffered direct and long-term impact as a result of the pandemic, the Council has urged the government to make arrangements for vaccination at the earliest to tourism entrepreneurs, staffers and workers so as to protect the tourism sector.

NeMUN, London, to set up ‘Covid-19 Challenge Fund’

LONDON, May 7: Nepalese Migrant Unity Network (NeMUN), Europe, on Thursday organized a gathering to help the government of Nepal in Corona Virus pandemic. The gathering also announced to form ‘COVID-19 Challenge Fund’ of Rs 5 million to fight against Covid-19 pandemic in Nepal. The gathering decided to invest the fund to purchase health supplies including oxygen concentrator machine as well as fruits and food would be distributed in honour of health workers providing their services round the clock putting their lives at risk. On the occasion, Professor of Huddersfield University, London, Dr Padam Simkhada, presented a working paper regarding vulnerable situation of Covid-19 pandemic in Nepal and world’s experience in fight against Covid-19.

One more succumbs to COVID-19 at Hetauda Hospital

HETAUDA, May 5: One more person died due to Corona Virus infection at Hetauda Hospital this morning. A 68-year-old man of Makawanpurgadhi rural municipality-5 in Makawanpur district died in course of treatment at Hetauda Hospital, said COVID In-Charge of the Hospital, Dr Sagar Kafle. The person had tested positive for Corona Virus on April 27 and was admitted to the hospital on April 28. With this, the number of people died from Corona Virus at Hetauda Hospital has reached six, according to the Hospital.

25-bed HDU Hospital in operation in Lamahi

DEUKHURI, May 4: A 25-bed High Dependency Unit Hospital has been brought into operation in Lamahi for the treatment of Corona Virus infected people. The hospital was brought into operation at the investment of four local levels of Deukhuri and hospital has received the Corona Virus infected people for their treatment, according to the Hospital. Chief of the Hospital, Dr Pushpa Bhusal, stated that oxygen facility has been installed to facilitate the treatment of Corona Virus infected people. Mayor of Lamahi Municipality, Kul Bahadur KC, shared that the Corona Virus infected people in need of oxygen facility would be admitted to the hospital. He added 12 beds are readied in the first phase while it would be expanded to 25 beds soon. All municipals in Dang district have made isolation centres with oxygen facility for treatment of COVID-19 patients. Similarly, Tulasipur Sub-Metropolitan City has prepared 50-bed isolation centre with oxygen facility while Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City in with collaboration Rapti Academy of Health Sciences is working for preparations of beds, according to Mayor of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City, Narulal Chaudhary.

Chartered and rescue flights to take place during prohibitory period

KATHMANDU, May 4: The government has suspended domestic flights from Monday night meant to break the chain of Corona Virus. Similarly, international flights would be suspended from May 6 midnight. However, there would be limited flights between Nepal and India. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), all domestic flights and international flights have been suspended, and only two flights a week would take place between Nepal and India. A council of ministers meeting held on Sunday decided to suspend all the domestic and international flights till May 14 to control the spread of Corona Virus infection. However, chartered and rescue flight would take place during this period, according to CAAN. CAAN Spokesperson, Raj Kumar Chhetri, said that domestic and international chartered and rescue flights would be operated by taking permission on the basis of necessity. The passengers returning Nepal from India should mandatorily stay in quarantine for 10 days. Barcode and PCR report with photo has been made mandatory to the passengers for chartered and rescue flights.

Humla transit being monitored

SIMIKOT, April 25: Simikot airport, the major entry point to the district and other three road check points are being strictly monitored in the wake of increased Corona Virus infections. Precaution is being taken in the district after the Corona Virus pandemic has increased in Nepalgunj and Surkhet, the two major locations for flying into the district. A meeting of the District COVID management committee decided to take strict measures to protect the residents from the Corona Virus, said Chief District Officer Ganesh Acharya. As a result, a health team led by a doctor has been mobilized at the Simikot airport to screen the incoming passengers. Likewise, health desk will be established in the inter-provincial links including at Kawadi of Tanjakot rural municipality, Balukuna of Sarkegaad rural municipality, Bhihi of Adanchuli rural municipality and Rimi of Changkheli rural municipality. The health desks have been asked to maintain profile of all the people coming into the district. Those arriving to the district will be asked to remain in contact with the health workers for the first 10 days, CDO Acharya said. Likewise, quarantine and isolation centres will be immediately established at the district level and in all municipalities. A three-bed isolation ward has been established at the district hospital for treatment of the Corona Virus infected.

Eight India-returnees tested positive

Eight people who had returned home from India have tested positive to Corona Virus. They were found infected in an antigen test carried out of 39 people who entered Nepal from the Jhulaghat transit point. Seven of them are from Dasarathchand municipality and one from Dogadakedar. They are all now in home-based isolation, the Health Ministry said. A health desk has been set up at the transit point in Jhulaghat with the support of the Sudur Paschim provincial government.
