Rajeshman Singh secures victory in Birgunj metropolis

KATHMANDU, May 23: Rajeshman Singh, mayoral candidate of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) backed by the ruling alliance, has secured victory in the recently held local level polls. As many as 94,600 votes were casted in the metropolis. Of them, 80,786 votes have already been counted. At the time when only 14,000 votes remained to be counted, Singh is currently leading the vote count by a margin of 19,000 votes. Singh has so far garnered 39,661 votes while his nearest contender Bijay Kymar Sarawagi of CPN-UML has collected 20,205 votes.

UPDATE: Vote count in 619 local units concludes (with results)

KATHMANDU, May 20: Vote count of local level elections held recently has been completed in 619 local units so far. As of Friday morning, the ruling Nepali Congress has won the highest of 275 local units including 99 posts of mayor and 176 posts of chairperson. The party is currently leading the vote count in 43 local units. Likewise, the main opposition party, CPN-UML, is in second position winning in 170 local units and maintaining the lead in 31 local units. Similarly, the CPN (Maoist Center) is in the third position, clinching victory in 112 local units and maintaining the lead in nine local units. Meanwhile, the CPN (Unified Socialist) has stood victorious in 14 local units while the Janata Samajbadi Party has won 18 local units.

Vote count in 551 local units concludes (with results)

KATHMANDU, May 19: Vote count of the local level election in 551 local units has concluded as of Wednesday morning. So far, the ruling Nepali Congress has won the highest number of local units, according to the Election Commission (EC). The party has won the post of Mayor in 83 municipalities and posts of Chairperson in 162 rural municipalities. Meanwhile, the NC is currently leading the vote count for the post of mayor in 67 local units. Likewise, the main opposition party, CPN-UML, has clinched victory in 157 local units. The party is currently leading the vote count in 44 local units. Similarly, the CPN (Maoist Center) has won 102 local units and is currently leading in 16 local units.

EC directs authorities concerned to finish vote counting within five days

KATHMANDU, May 18: The Election Commission (EC) has directed authorities concerned to finish the vote counting of the recently held local level elections within five days. Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, a spokesperson, Saligram Sharma Poudel for the poll body, directed authorities in this regard. According to the poll body, the vote count has been concluded in 460 local units and it is currently underway in the remaining units. As the tenure of the outgoing local representatives are coming to an end by May 19, so the poll body is under pressure to conclude the vote count and avoid local units from going representatives less.

UML accuse ruling alliance of rigging local polls in Madhesh Province

KATHMANDU, May 18: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has accused the ruling alliance-led by the Nepali Congress of rigging the local level polls in Madhesh Province. As the vote count of recently held local polls are underway and results are arriving gradually, the ruling Nepali Congress seems in a strong position winning the highest number of local units so far. The main opposition party, UML, is trailing behind, followed by the CPN (Maoist Center). Organizing a press conference at Janakpurdham, Raghubir Mahaseth, Provincial Incharge of UML, accused the ruling alliance of rigging the local polls in collaboration with election officials at Madhesh Province. Mahaseth also accused the Nepali Congress and ruling alliance of misusing the authorities of security personnel and election officials as per their interests. “The Nepali Congress attacked more than a dozen polling centers, canceled voting and hijacked ballot boxes and fake votes were casted in collaboration of election officers deployed in the area,” he added. Vote count concludes in 410 local units (with results)

KATHMANDU, May 18: Vote count of the local level election in 410 local units has concluded as of 10 AM, Wednesday. So far, the ruling Nepali Congress has won the highest number of local units, according to the Election Commission (EC). The party has won the post of Mayor in 52 municipalities and posts of Chairperson in 139 rural municipalities. Meanwhile, the NC is currently leading the vote count for the post of mayor in 52 municipalities and the post of chairperson in 43 rural municipalities.  Likewise, the main opposition party, CPN-UML, has clinched victory for the post of mayor in 28 municipalities and the post of chairperson in nine rural municipalities. The party is currently leading the vote count in four municipalities and 32 rural municipalities. Similarly, the CPN (Maoist Center) has won in nine municipalities and 70 rural municipalities so far, currently leading in 14 municipalities and 18 rural municipalities.

Independent candidate leads vote count in Dhulikhel Municipality

KATHMANDU, May 14: Independent candidate for the post of mayor of Dhulikhel Municipality is currently leading the vote count of the local level polls. Bidur Bahadur Basnet, an independent candidate for the post of mayor of the municipality, has garnered 400 votes out of 900 votes counted so far. His nearest contender was Ashok Kumar Byanju, UML’s candidate for the post of mayor, collecting 343 votes. Meanwhile, candidate of the ruling alliance, Daya Sagar Shrestha collected 12 votes.

EC to virtually monitor vote count in upcoming local polls

KATHMANDU, March 24: The Election Commission will be monitoring the vote count virtually in the upcoming local level elections. The poll body will be monitoring the vote count through a video live in some of the high political and sensitive zones. “There will be virtual monitoring in areas identified as sensitive by the poll body and security bodies during the vote count,” said Surya Prasad Aryal, deputy spokesperson of the commission. “The commission will be monitoring the vote count in such areas directly and resolve the issues, if any, immediately,” he further said. Besides, the poll body has decided to mobilize a special Information Technology (IT) team to monitor the social media platforms during the election. “If anyone is found misusing the platforms, disseminating misinformation regarding the elections, defaming any individuals or making negative comments, actions will be taken against it,” said Aryal.
