PM Deuba summons meeting of key party leaders

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba has summoned a meeting of the key party leaders. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Prime Minister’s Office at Baluwatar at 9 AM this morning. The meeting will dwell on the upcoming general elections and issues of seat sharing with the coalition members. The ruling NC is eying to be the largest party in the country through the election while the CPN (MC) is targeting to be the second largest. Of the 165 election constituencies, the NC is preparing to claim 99 seats while the CPN (MC) is preparing to claim 50 seats. Likewise, the CPN (US) wants 25 seats and the JSP wants 15 seats. One goes to the Rastriya Janamorcha Party. A task force has been formed to prepare a strategy for seat sharing in the upcoming polls. The task force is also scheduled to hold its meeting on Monday.

NC leader Singh to file candidacy for party presidency

Former general secretary of the Nepali Congress, Prakashman Singh, has said that he would file his candidacy for party central presidency in its 14th General Convention. At a program organised by the NC Nagarjun municipal committee on Wednesday, NC leader Singh claimed the post reasoning that he had helped party leaders-- Ram Chandra Poudel and Shashanka Koirala to the post of president and general-secretary respectively in the 13th general convention. He accused the current party leadership of failing to carry out works as per cadres' expectations. Saying the party should be united by ending groupism, Singh expressed the hope that the NC would be a party as the people want it to be after the 14th general convention. He also urged party leaders and cadres to support him in the election as he argued that leaders and cadres within the party have suggested him to go for filing his candidacy for the party presidency.

NC to clear stalemate: Leader Singh

KATHMANDU, September 7: Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh has said NC had always cleared the stalemate the country faced. At an interaction on 'NC 14th General Convention and Leadership Development' organized by the party at Jorpati of Sindhupalchowk constituency no 2 on Monday, leader Singh viewed that the current government was formed to give out let from the impasse. The NC has not compromised with anyone for the establishment of democratic values in the country, he reminded. The leader further argued that NC leadership was committed to protecting citizen's fundamental rights. Similarly, he made aware the party leadership on the procedure and norms while distributing the party's active membership for the 14th general convention. He urged the cadres to strengthen the party organization from the very base so that it would not face defeat again. On the occasion, central member and youth leader Gagan Kumar Thapa said the NC which struggled for the rule of constitution must ensure rule of law in the party itself. Another central member of the party Bishnu Bikram Thapa urged the party leaders and cadres to rise above caste, religion and region for the sake of party unity and strengthening. Sindhupalchowk district Chair of NC, Bikash Lama, underscored the need of fostering debate at lower levels on MCC.
