KATHMANDU, June 5: In his first week as the new mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, where lies the federal capital of the country, Balen Shah has given top most priorities to waste management as roadsides and streets have turned into a dumping site in recent days.
Mayor Shah has been holding meetings with ministers and taking stock of dumping sites.
It has been learnt that Minister for Urban Development, Ram Kumari Jhakri, has told mayor Shah that it will take time to address the issues of waste management in the Valley.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City has urged citizens not to throw waste on the road. KMC, on Monday, released a statement mentioning that as roads to the landfills sites were blocked due to the monsoon rain, it was impossible to manage waste at the moment.
