Four people succumb to COVID-19 in Lumbini Province

BUTWAL, April 18: As many as four people have succumbed to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Lumbini Province on Saturday evening in just five hours.  According to Satya Narayan Thapa, DSP at the District Police Office, Rupandehi, a 65-year-old female from Mayadavi Rural Municipality-5, Rupandehi, who was admitted to a medical college in Bhairahawa, breathed her last at 5:50 PM.  Similarly, a 73-year-old male of Bardiya’s Rajpur Rural Municipaliyt-1 passed away at 7:40 PM while another woman (aged 78) of Baijnath Rural Municpality-8 died around 9 PM on Saturday while undergoing treatment at COVID-19 ward of Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj. Likewise, a 68-year-old woman from Narayan Rural Municipality-1, Dailekh also succumbed to the disease in the course of treatment at the same hospital.

KATHMANDU, November 14: The government is administering the Pfizer vaccines against COVID-19 in Nepal from Sunday.  The vaccine will be administered to people with chronic diseases and who are older than 12 years old. According to Sagar Dahal, chief of the Immunization Section under the Department of Health Service, the Pfizer vaccine, received in a grant from the COVAX facility, will be administered to more than 50,000 people with chronic diseases. Those receiving the first dose will be administered the second dose within 21 to 28 days of receiving their first dose. Earlier, Nepal received 100,620 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines from COVAX. It has been made mandatory to possess a medical report of chronic disease issued by hospitals or medics to receive the vaccine. The vaccination drive will be conducted in 24 vaccine centers including eight in Kathmandu Valley and 16 out of the valley. BHAIRAHAWA, September 28: The hotels in Lumbini area have announced various offers in their services to customers to rev up their business hit by COVID-19 pandemic. The hotels here have offered discount on food and accommodation targeting the domestic tourists, the Lumbini Hotel Association (LHA) stated. The Association believes that this offer will help prop up the tourism business weakened by the pandemic. It is expected to attract visitors to Lumbini. LHA has made arrangements for providing 25 per cent discount in hotel stay and 10 per cent discount on food, LHA President Mithun Shrestha said. "This offer has been announced targeting tourists visiting Lumbini," he said. It is said the number of tourists has started to increase gradually in Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, with the lifting of the restrictions put in place to contain the risk of COVID-19. Along with the hotels in Lumbini area, the hotels in neighbouring Bhairahawa city have also announced heavy discount offers, the Siddhartha Hotel Association (SHA) stated. SHA president Chadra Prakash Shrestha said the hotels in Bhairahawa area have provided 25 to 50 per cent special discount on accommodation as well as on food based on the type of menu.

Lumbini-Kapilvastu Global Campaign marks International Day of Peace

KATHMANDU, September 24: On the occasion of International Day of Peace, the Lumbini-Kapilvastu Global Campaign, Belgium, recently organized various activities including a meeting with Leuven city councilor for Global Policy with a campaign “Adopt an SDG”. The online peace workshop and spiritual art performance was organised in collaboration with Butterfly Circles Organization, Damodar Prasad Acharya, Europe Advisor of the Movement said.  The Campaign is a Leuven-based peace organization that uses Buddha's message of non-violence, world peace and social harmony for building a resilient society,  social work and sustainable development.  The Campaign actively supports partnerships at local, national, and international levels and contributes to the achievement of the SDG 16 (Peace) and SDG 17 (Partnerships) goals. Dr Rajendra Bari, President of the Campaign, said, "We want to bring the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals to the attention of policymakers with the local campaign."  Several speakers from Belgium, Switzerland, Chile, Vietnam, and Nepal took part in the online workshop, it is said.   The speakers talked about the importance of peace and their experiences in helping others to achieve peace including meditation, Yoga, spirituality and overall balance in the body, mind and soul.   During the programme, video presentation was made about dealing with stressful situations during the COVID-19 pandemic and the options to balance the life.  The workshop was also an opportunity for networking and connecting with each other for organising future events, Acharya said.  The participants of the event also participated in the spiritual art performance in Brugge City Center in collaboration of Butterfly Circles organization.

Maoist leader Ghartimagar dies of COVID-19

ROLPA, May 21: Lumbini Province Committee Member of CPN (Maoist Centre) Harihara Ghartimagar has died of Coronavirus infection this morning. She succumbed to the virus in Corona Special Hospital at Beljhundi in Dang.   A permanent resident of Madi Rural Municipality-5 in Rolpa district, Ghartimagar was also involved in social services through agriculture cooperative and different social organisations.   Prior to this, she was admitted to Rolpa Hospital on May 18 after getting infected with the Coronavirus.   From Rolpa Hospital, she was referred to Corona Special Hospital in Beljhundi where she died while receiving treatment, Maoist Centre leader Man Singh BK confirmed.   With this, a total of 10 persons died in the district of Rolpa with the second wave of COVID-19.  As per the information shared by the District Administration Office, Ropla, the number of active cases in the district is 538.
