Maoist leader Ghartimagar dies of COVID-19

ROLPA, May 21: Lumbini Province Committee Member of CPN (Maoist Centre) Harihara Ghartimagar has died of Coronavirus infection this morning. She succumbed to the virus in Corona Special Hospital at Beljhundi in Dang.   A permanent resident of Madi Rural Municipality-5 in Rolpa district, Ghartimagar was also involved in social services through agriculture cooperative and different social organisations.   Prior to this, she was admitted to Rolpa Hospital on May 18 after getting infected with the Coronavirus.   From Rolpa Hospital, she was referred to Corona Special Hospital in Beljhundi where she died while receiving treatment, Maoist Centre leader Man Singh BK confirmed.   With this, a total of 10 persons died in the district of Rolpa with the second wave of COVID-19.  As per the information shared by the District Administration Office, Ropla, the number of active cases in the district is 538.

CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair Nepal tests positive for COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal has tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).  Chair Nepal underwent a test on Tuesday after developing symptoms similar to that of COVID-19, according to Jagannath Khatiwada, a leader of the party.  “He has isolated himself at his residence,” added Khatiwada.  Earlier, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha who had attended a ruling alliance’s meeting along with Nepal had contracted the virus.  Prime Minister Deuba, who remained isolated after Prachanda’s COVID-19 report, however, tested negative on Tuesday.

PM Deuba tests negative for COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has tested negative to coronavirus disease (COVID-19).  PMDeuba, who was in isolation after CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson, Pushpa Kamal Dahal tested positive underwent RT-PCR test on Monday. “The report today gave a negative result,” according to PM Deuba's Secretariat. Dahal had tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday. Similarly, Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Devendra Paudel, tested positive for coronavirus. His health is normal and is in home isolation, according to Paudel's Secretariat.

Maoist Center’s 8th Gen Convention: COVID-19 ‘hotspot’

KATHMANDU, Jan 9: The CPN (Maoist Center) held its eight general convention in Kathmandu recently on January 6. The jamboree continued for a week which was attended by more than 1,700 representatives to re-elect Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ as their leader. Just a few days after the conclusion, the delegates attending the convention began testing positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) including the newly elected chair Dahal. So far, as many as 22 central members of the party have already confirmed to be positive for COVID-19. Party secretary Dor Prasad Upadhaya, Avindra Parajuli, leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Matrika Yadav, Hari Bol Gajurel, Ram Prasad Sapkota, Subod Sherpali, Pancha Singh and Suman Devkota along with many others also tested positive for COVID-19. In recent days, Chairman Dahal was busy attending meetings and holding discussions with the key political leaders including Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. PM Deuba is currently at self-isolation and had held an hour-long meeting with KP Sharma Oli at the latter's residence at Balkot on Saturday.  Both Deuba and Dahal were present at the meeting of the ruling alliance. Dahal had also attended a meeting of a high-level political co-ordination committee the day before testing positive for the virus. Meanwhile, delegates attending the convention have now reached their home districts who are at high risk of COVID-19 transmission. In a similar case, the former chief minister of Karnali Province, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi who had returned home after attending the convention, tested positive for COVID-19.  The ill-managed political activities of the major political parties and the negligence of leaders have once again triggered a spike in the new cases of COVID-19 amid global outbreak of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the country. In recent days, Nepal has been witnessing a sharp rise in the new cases of  COVID-19 across the country. The Ministry of Health and Population on Saturday confirmed 44 more new cases of the coronavirus disease.  With this, the total number of active cases throughout the country has reached 6,140.

Senior leaders including PM Deuba in self-isolation

KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is currently in self-isolation after the chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal tested positive for COVID-19. PM Deuba is in isolation after CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' tested positive for COVID-19, according to the PM’s secretariat. Both PM Deuba and Dahal were present in a meeting of the ruling alliance and high level political coordination committee held in Baluwatar two days ago. PM Deuba and other top leaders of the ruling parties were identified as contacts of Dahal after the latter tested positive for the virus. Maoist Centre leaders Narayankaji Shrestha, Haribol Gajurel, Matrika Yadav, Dor Prasad Upadhyay, Ram Prasad Sapkota, Ramesh Malla and others have also tested positive for COVID-19. Similarly, on Saturday, PM Deuba held a meeting with UML Chair Oli. In this view, UML Chair Oli is also among contacts of Dahal and Deuba.

PM Deuba isolates after Maoist Chair Prachanda contracts COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has kept him isolated after CPN (Maoist Center) tested positive for the COVID-19.  According to PM Deuba’s secretariat, he [Deuba] has remained isolated at his official residence in Baluwatar since Saturday afternoon.   Prachanda, who participated in a high-level coordination mechanism a couple of days ago along with PM Deuba, contracted the virus during Friday’s test.  A secretariat member told Ratopati that he [Deuba] decided to isolate himself as per the COVID-19 protocols. Deuba also held a meeting with CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli on Saturday morning.

Maoist Chair Prachanda, leader Shreshta contract COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Puspha Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has contracted COVID-19.  According to his secretariat, Prachanda tested positive for the virus on Friday evening. He is staying isolated at his private residence.  Meanwhile, another Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha also shared that he tested positive for the virus. Taking to social media on Saturday morning, Shrestha said that he would remain isolated at home for at least two weeks.  Prachanda has suspended all the meetings since Wednesday as some of the party leaders and staff at the party headquarters in Paris Danda contracted the virus. Meanwhile, the party’s central committee meeting scheduled for Sunday was also postponed until further notice.

MPs draw attention of government towards COVID-19 control, disaster mitigation

KATHMANDU, July 30: MPs have drawn the attention of the government towards prevention and control of COVID-19 pandemic and disaster mitigation. Speaking in the 'zero hour' in the meeting of the House of Representatives today, they urged the government to take steps towards saving lives with utmost seriousness.  Dev Prasad Gurung of the CPN (Maoist Centre) stressed on the need of bringing damage mitigation programmes taking into account the large scale damage to lives and property caused by the flooding and landslide occurred in various places. He also called for providing appropriate compensation to the disaster-survivors.  Another lawmaker from the same party Devendra Poudel expressed concern over the delay in managing adequate quantity of vaccines in the face of the flaring COVID-19 pandemic. "The Ministry of Health and Population has warned of the outbreak of a new variant of coronavirus. But we do not find that the vaccination drive is conducted in a systematic and effective manner. The citizens are compelled to endure long wait in queue. The government should pay attention to this," he added.  Dr Dila Sangraula of the ruling party, the Nepali Congress, emphasised on the need of providing COVID vaccines to all citizens. She called on the government to take necessary steps to checking violence against women, including their kidnapping.   Devendra Raj Kandel of the same party called on the government to facilitate the foreign employment aspirants and migrant workers as they have been facing various difficulties traveling abroad.  Dilendra Prasad Badu, also of the Nepali Congress, said three people have died, a bridge has been swept away and the water supply project damaged due to flooding in the Naugad of Darchula recently. He called on the government to provide appropriate relief to the affected people. Pushpa Bhusal urged the government to be serious regarding controlling the COVID-19 in an effective manner.  Lawmakers Dr Deepak Prakash Bhatta, Durga Bahadur Raut, Durga Kumari Bishwokarma, Durga Poudel, Damodar Bhandari, Dil Kumari, Divya Mani Rajbhandari, Dharmashila Chapagain, Nandalal Roka, Nawaraj Silwal, Narayan Prasad Khatiwada, Niradevi Jairu, Nirudevi pal, Padma Narayan Chaudhary, Pabitra Niraula Kharel, Parbata DC Chaudhary, Parbati Kumari Bishankhe, Prakash Rasaili, Pramila Rai, among others, also voiced various issues concerning the livelihood of the people and the problems faced by the people due to the pandemic.

Maoist demands to scrap CCMC, to submit memorandum to PM on Friday

KATHMANDU, May 20: The CPN (Maoist Center) is preparing to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli incorporating its suggestions to the government for the prevention, treatment and control of the coronavirus disease.  A meeting of the party’s Standing Committee held on Thursday decided to hand over a memorandum to Prime Minister Oli demanding the dissolution of COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC), according to Maoist leader and former minister, Barshaman Pun. "Today’s meeting decided to hand over a memorandum to the Prime Minister on Friday regarding the efforts to be made by the government to control COVID-19," Pun told Ratopati. "The CCMC should be scrapped as it proved to be non-functional” Pun said, adding that a separate entity of Disaster Management Authority  should be formed and be led by the Prime Minister.  Similarly, the Maoist center also demanded the government form an all-party mechanism under the leadership of the Prime Minister to control the pandemic.
