Nepali Congress general secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma on Tuesday met with the Election Commission officials and demanded for arrangement of voting rights to Nepali citizens living abroad. In a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner, Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, and his team they drew attention of the constitutional body, to take decision in this regard as the Supreme Court has already given a verdict about the voting rights to Nepali citizens living abroad.
Even four years after the Supreme Court issued a directive order to the government to ensure voting rights for Nepalis living abroad, the government has not done anything.
Members of the Bibeksheel Nepali, who refused to merge with the Sajha Party to become the Bibeksheel Sajha Party in December last year, have demanded that the government make provisions to ensure Nepali migrant workers staying in various places of the world get their voting rights.
