Aircraft carrying COVID-19 vaccines from China fails to land at TIA

KATHMANDU: An aircraft of the Sichuan Airways arriving from China carrying a shipment of Vero Cell vaccines failed to land at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Monday morning due to adverse weather conditions.  The airplane returned to China with the medical supplies given to Nepal under the COVAX facility. The supplies incorporating 121,887 doses of vaccines are assisted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).  Similarly, 1,870,500 doses of vaccines will be arriving from India on Monday itself. So far Nepal has imported 35,466,980 doses of COVID-19 vaccines and 21,654,109 vaccines have been administered.

Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines gets approval for emergency use among children in Nepal

KATHMANDU, September 12: The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has been granted approval for emergency use against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Nepal. The Department of Drugs Administrations (DDA) has granted the approval to administer Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines among childrens in Nepal. “The DDA has granted permission to distribute Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines through the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP),” said Narayan Prasad Dhakal, Director General of the department. “The government can now procure the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines and administer it among childrens.” The government has begun preparations to administer Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to children who are more than 12 years old. Nepal is scheduled to receive 100,000 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines in a few days through the COVAX facility. So far, along with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, Covishield, Vero Cell, J & J and Astrazeneca vaccines have been given approval for emergency use against COVID-19. (With inputs from Annapurna Post)

WHO congratulates Nepal for administering 1 million does of COVID-19 vaccines

KATHMANDU: Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) has congratulated Nepal for administering 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.  “Congratulations Nepal for administering 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines and fully vaccinating 15 % population in population in a short time,” she said.  According to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), 5,425,888 people have so far received the first dose of the vaccine while 4,677,796 have been inoculated with both doses.

‘US to donate COVID-19 vaccines enough to inoculate 1.5 million Nepalis’

NAC’s aircraft flying to China to bring COVID-19 vaccines

KATHMANDU, July 8: An aircraft of the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is flying to China today to bring COVID-19 vaccines namely, Vero Cell purchased by Nepal from the Chinese Government. The aircraft (wide-body A330) will take off to China three times until July 23 to ship all quantities of the vaccines procured from China through government-to-government (G2G) channels, said Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population.  The first shipment will arrive on July 9. Likewise, the aircraft will fly on July 15 for second lot and arrive on July 16. Again, it will take off on July 22 and bring the third shipment on July 23. “The consignment is large. However, its exact amount is not known,” he said. The vaccines were manufactured by Sinopharm Company in China.  People aged below 60 would be prioritised for the inoculations, he said.  So far, the country has received 4,248,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. It aims to vaccinate 22 million people above 18 against the infection. So far, 851,300 people have received the second dose and 2,611,807 people the first dose.

US to provide vaccines to Nepal

KATHMANDU, June 5: The United States of America is to provide COVID-19 vaccines to Nepal.  Issuing a statement on Friday, joint spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari said that the US government has decided to support Nepal with COVID-19 vaccines. The type and number of vaccines are however not decided.  "The announcement to provide COVID-19 vaccines to Nepal is appreciated. We extend heartfelt gratitude for this announcement. Nepal and the Nepali people look forward to similar support and cooperation in the future," reads the statement. Prior to this, the US government had provided medical supplies to help Nepal prevent and control COVID-19.
