NC demands Indian side halt construction of embankment along Mahakali River
NC leader Dilendra Prasad Badu claimed that the Indian side had encroached the border pillar and had been building the embankment despite the protest from the locals.
Nepal and India have been able to amiably resolve a border-related tension that recently emerged after the southern neighbour began constructing an embankment unilaterally towards the Nepali boundary in the Mahakali River.
Expressing concerns over the unilateral embankment construction project being built on the Mahakali River at the western border, Nepal has sent a diplomatic note to India.
India has agreed to hold the embankment construction project being unilaterally built on the Mahakali River at the Nepal-India border in Darchula and allow the river to take its own course within 10 days.
Dhangadi/Darchula, Dec 7: India has stopped the unilateral construction of an embankment along the Mahakali River in Darchula district. Earlier, India had started building the embankment without any coordination with Nepal, in violation of international law. Tension arose after the locals protested against the construction of the embankment by India and now the Indian side has stopped the construction of the embankment.
DHANGADI, DARCHULA, Dec 7: Besides encroaching upon considerable areas in the Nepali territories of Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh, the Indian side has been accused of causing trouble to the people not only in the encroached land but also to those living in the border areas of Darchula district.
The unilateral construction of an embankment by the Indian side along the Mahakali River in Darchula district has triggered protests in Nepal after locals on both sides of the border engaged in pelting stones at each other over the issue.
