HoR meeting today, discussion of MCC compact

KATHMANDU, Feb 24: A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled for 1 PM today.  The Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) compact will be discussed in the meeting.  As the government has tabled the agreement in parliament, the $500 million American grant now requires a parliamentary ratification. The meeting earlier scheduled for Thursday was postponed for Friday at the request of the government.  At the time when the protests have erupted against the MCC agreement and the ruling alliance is fragmented, the ratification of the MCC compact hangs in the balance.

KATHMANDU, Feb 27: A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled to discuss the Millennium Challenge Corporation compact (MCC) on Sunday. The meeting has been summoned for 1 PM today, according to the secretariat of the federal parliament. In the meeting, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is scheduled to present the annual report of the Office of Attorney General and Finance Minister Janardan Sharam will be presenting a proposal to discuss the MCC. Prior to this, the meeting of the HoR scheduled for Thursday and Friday was postponed in the request of the government.

In what seemed like the final effort of Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of CPN (Maosit Center), to avoid the tabling of the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) in parliament, Dahal held a meeting with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba just after the party's parliamentary party meeting and the two leaders reached an agreement not to table the MCC in Wednesday’s parliament meeting. The Maoist Center was all set to withdraw its support to the PM Deuba-led government, if the MCC was tabled in today’s meeting.

KATHMANDU, Feb 16: The ruling alliance is scheduled to hold a meeting Thursday to make a final decision regarding the ratification of the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC). The meeting has been summoned for 3 PM at the Prime Minister’s office residence at Baluwatar, according to Ramesh Malla, personal secretary of Pushpa Kamal Dahal, chairman of CPN (Maoist Center). A meeting of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and MC’s Chair Dahal took a decision not to table the MCC in Wednesday’s parliament meeting and summoned a meeting of the ruling alliance.
