Senior leaders including PM Deuba in self-isolation

KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is currently in self-isolation after the chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal tested positive for COVID-19. PM Deuba is in isolation after CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' tested positive for COVID-19, according to the PM’s secretariat. Both PM Deuba and Dahal were present in a meeting of the ruling alliance and high level political coordination committee held in Baluwatar two days ago. PM Deuba and other top leaders of the ruling parties were identified as contacts of Dahal after the latter tested positive for the virus. Maoist Centre leaders Narayankaji Shrestha, Haribol Gajurel, Matrika Yadav, Dor Prasad Upadhyay, Ram Prasad Sapkota, Ramesh Malla and others have also tested positive for COVID-19. Similarly, on Saturday, PM Deuba held a meeting with UML Chair Oli. In this view, UML Chair Oli is also among contacts of Dahal and Deuba.

PM Deuba isolates after Maoist Chair Prachanda contracts COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has kept him isolated after CPN (Maoist Center) tested positive for the COVID-19.  According to PM Deuba’s secretariat, he [Deuba] has remained isolated at his official residence in Baluwatar since Saturday afternoon.   Prachanda, who participated in a high-level coordination mechanism a couple of days ago along with PM Deuba, contracted the virus during Friday’s test.  A secretariat member told Ratopati that he [Deuba] decided to isolate himself as per the COVID-19 protocols. Deuba also held a meeting with CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli on Saturday morning.

Constitution promulgated through CA due to Prachanda’s efforts: PM Deuba

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the new constitution had been promulgated through the Constituent Assembly (CA) due to the CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s efforts.  Addressing the inaugural session of the Eighth General Convention of the ruling Maoist Center in the capital on Sunday, Deuba, who is also president of Nepali Congress (NC), lauded Prachanda’s political contribution, saying that the election of CA was held due to the firm stance of the latter.  On the occasion, Deuba also said that the five-party alliance is not against any political force. He reiterated that the alliance was formed in order to ensure that the lower House remains intact throughout the full tenure.

PM Deuba calls all-party meeting on Sunday

KATHMANDU, Dec 18: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has called an all-party meeting. According to Govinda Pariyar, a press aide to PM Deuba, the meeting will convene at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar at 4 PM, Sunday.  Bhanu Deuba, an aide to Deuba said that the meeting will dwell on the solutions to end the ongoing parliament stalemate.  The main opposition UML has been obstructing the House meeting since September 8. Though a new session kicked off on Tuesday, the meeting could not enter into normal businesses owing to the UML obstruction. UML has been blaming Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota for the latter's ‘biased act’ by not taking action against 14 lawmakers which the party had sacked in August.  Earlier, Deuba had a meeting with the chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Friday morning.  Two leaders agreed to move ahead after holding discussions with all the political parties over two major issues ---- prolonged House obstruction by the CPN-UML and the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a United States government program.  Meanwhile, the government is reportedly preparing to table the MCC in the House meeting. However, the coalition partners of the five-party ruling alliance are at odds on whether or not to table the compact.  The Maoist party has been stressing the need for forging a common understanding among the ruling partners before presenting the compact for ratification.

KATHMANDU, Dec 17: Following a meeting with one of the coalition partners, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is preparing to summon an all-party meeting.  Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and PM Deuba held a meeting at the Baluwatar-based official residence of the prime minister on Friday morning.  Two leaders agreed to move ahead after holding discussions with all the political parties over two major issues ---- prolonged House obstruction by the CPN-UML and the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a United States government program.  According to the secretariat of Prachanda, Deuba is preparing to call an all-party meeting over the burning issues next Sunday or Monday--- before the next scheduled meeting of the House of Representatives on December 21.  The main opposition UML has been obstructing the House meeting since September 8. Though a new session kicked off on Tuesday, the meeting could not enter into normal businesses owing to the UML obstruction. KATHMANDU, Aug 19: Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) and Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of newly formed CPN-UML (Samajbadi) visited Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday morning.  Three leaders discussed various contemporary political issues.  Their meeting comes a day after the main opposition CPN-UML was formally split and party’s then senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal got a new party --- CPN-UML (Samajbadi) --- registered at the Election Commission.

PM Deuba, Maoist Chair Prachanda discuss Cabinet expansion

KATHMANDU, July 27: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Puhspa Kamal Dahal Prachanda have held a meeting.  In the meeting that took place at the official residence of the prime minister in Baluwatar on Tuesday morning, Deuba and Prachadna discussed the Cabinet expansion.  According to Bhanu Deuba, personal aide to PM Deuba, the discussion dwelt on various current affairs including Cabinet expansion.  Deuba added that expansion of the six-member Deuba-led Cabinet will take some more days as consultations among the parties of the ruling alliance is still underway.  Following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the House dissolution case, Nepali Congress President and parliamentary party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba was appointed PM as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution on July 13. He also won House confidence on July 18 as per Article 76 (6).  Deuba-led Cabinet has six members including four ministers ---- two each from the NC and Maoist Center ---- and a minister of state from the NC.

After Prachanda, Upendra Yadav meets Madhav Nepal

KATHMANDU, July 20: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chair Upendra Yadav have held separate meetings with former prime minister and senior leader of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal.  Prachanda was the first to reach the Koteshwor-based residence of leader Nepal. The two leaders held a meeting for an hour, according to the sources.  Shortly after Prachanda’s exit from Koteshwor, JSP Chair Yadav called on Nepal.  Prachanda and Yadav reportedly discussed expansion of the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led Cabinet with leader Nepal, who also leads a dissident faction in the UML.  Leaders’ series of meetings come at a time when PM Deuba is preparing to expand his five-member Cabinet as he won parliament’s confidence on July 18 [Sunday].
