MCC will be tabled in parliament now: NC leader Poudel

KATHMANDU, Feb 14: Leader of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC), Ram Chandra Poudel has maintained that the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) will now be tabled in parliament. No one can avoid the MCC from tabling in parliament, Poudel said, speaking during an event organized by the Bhanubhakta Literature Study Committee. Leader Poudel also accused the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) of barring the lawmakers from tabling the MCC in parliament. Besides, Poudel also maintained that the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana was a much needed move. At the time when the Nepal Bar Association and Justices of the Supreme Court are raising questions against CJ Rana, registration of the motion is natural. “Besides, CJ Rana himself had opted for the motion over resignation,” he added.

UML’s Bhim Rawal withdraws resignation

KATHMANDU, July 23< Vice-Chairperson of the CPN-UML and a key leader of the Madhav Nepal-faction of the party, Bhim Bahadur Rawal, has withdrawn his resignation from the post of a member of the House of Representatives (HoR).  Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Dr Rojnath Pandey, shared that Rawal withdrew the resignation which he had submitted to Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota on July 18. Rawal, elected from Achham-1 representing the UML, had submitted the resignation from the HoR member following the internal dispute in the party a couple of hours before Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba tabled the confidence motion in restored parliament. He had resigned from the post, expressing the concern that the game of politics is becoming non-political and unhealthy.   Chairperson KP Sharma Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal  urged leader Rawal to withdraw the resignation.

UML's Rawal declares resignation from position of MP

KATHMANDU, July 18: Bhim Rawal, a lawmaker of the CPN-UML has declared his resignation from the position of member of parliament.  Rawal, who also led the UML task force [from the Madhav Nepal faction], said that he opted to resign from the membership of the House of Representatives (HoR) as he is not satisfied with the decision of the faction to vote in favor of Prime MInister Sher Bahadur Deuba. PM Deuba is seeking a trust vote from the lower House of parliament on Sunday.  Rawal was elected from Achham-1.  Other lawmakers belonging to the Nepal faction, however, are preparing to vote for Deuba.

Georgian parliament speaker resigns

Georgian parliament speaker Archil Talakvadze announced his resignation on Saturday. "Given that several months of tense negotiations between the ruling party and the opposition parties ended with an agreement, where I was involved along with the party chairman, I think it would be appropriate to leave the position of Speaker and nominate a person who will lead the work of the parliament from a more neutral position," said Talakvadze at a news briefing. According to Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Kakha Kuchava will be nominated for the post of parliament speaker while Talakvadze will hold the position of vice speaker. Kuchava, who has been the vice speaker of the tenth convocation of the Georgian parliament, has been a member of the ruling party since 2016.
