Vote counting ends in 733 local levels

Election results of 733 local bodies, including 275 municipalities and 458 rural municipalities, have been made public as of 8:00 pm Monday. The final results of around 98 per cent of the 753 local levels are out now. According to the Election Commission (EC), the vote count is progressing in 16 municipalities and two rural municipalities while it has been stalled in two local levels. The result of 19 local levels with high number of voters including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Pokhara and Bharatpur metropolis and some other local levels where re-election were held remain to be announced.

Two adolescents drowned to death in a canal

CHITWAN, July 22: Two adolescent boys drowned to death in a canal. Ankeet Joshi, 16, and Bibek Sharma, 14, of Bharatpur metropolitan city-2, Chhetrapur died after being drowned in a canal.  According to the District Police Office, Chitwan, Bibek slipped into the canal nearby Chhetrapur open ground at around 4.00 pm on Wednesday where he went to wash his hands and legs.  Ankit also went missing in the canal in his attempt to save his friend Bibek. Police rescued both from the canal (some 200 meters away) and rushed to the Bharatpur hospital for treatment.  The boys had reached the nearby canal to beat the heat after playing cricket in the open ground, police informed.  They were pronounced dead while undergoing treatment at the hospital on Wednesday evening, police confirmed.

Narayangadh-Muglin road section sees one-way traffic operation

MUGLIN, July 9: Vehicular movement has resumed one way following removal of landslide debris in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29, Setidobhan.  The Narayangadh-Muglin road that had been obstructed due to landslides since 10.00 pm Wednesday has reopened with one-way traffic since 5.30 this morning.  According to the District Police Office, Chitwan, the vehicles stranded on the road now are plying to their destinations after the debris clear-off.  Since the onset of monsoon this year, the road section has witnessed traffic disruptions several times due to frequent incidents of landslides. With the recurring incidents, the vehicular mobility along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section has remained uncertain.

Narayangadh-Muglin road section sees traffic disruptions again

MUGLIN, July 8: The Narayangadh-Muglin road stretch has again witnessed traffic disruptions after landslides took place in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29, Setidobhan at 8.00 pm last night.  According to District Police Office Chitwan Chief, Om Prasad Adhikari, two JCV excavators have been mobilized since early this morning to remove the debris with boulders that put the traffic operations out of gear. It may take further time to clear off the road if further heavy equipment are required to use for breaking the boulders, he added.  The two-way traffic that had come into operations on the road stretch since 6.00 pm Wednesday has again witnessed obstructions. As informed, the debris is still sliding on the road. Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded along the road section due to traffic disruptions.  Landslides obstruct Bhimdutta highway  Landslides have obstructed the Bhimdutta Highway that connects seven hilly districts of Sudurpaschim Province. Traffic operations have come to a grinding halt along the highway since 3.00 am this morning. Locals said the landslide occurred at Ganyapdhura rural municipality-1, Shahukharka of Dadeldhura disrupted the highway traffic. Efforts are on to clear off the debris since early this morning so as to resume the highway.  Prithvi highway remains obstructed in Tanahun  Owing to incessant rain and subsequent flood, the Prithvi highway has been obstructed at Myagde rural municipality-4 in Tanahun. DSP Yubaraj Timilsena informed the rain-triggered flood obstructed the highway. Police personnel and locals are working together to reduce the water level in the swollen rivulet.  Meanwhile, landslides triggered by incessant rain since Wednesday evening buried two houses and caused damages to 10 houses in Rishing rural municipality of Tanahun. No human casualties have been so far reported according to the rural municipality office. Floods have also caused loss to the harvesting maize cultivated in 10 ropanis of land. Likewise, landslide has buried a house of Rishing-4 ward member Tolnath Thapa.

Narayangadh-Muglin road obstructed again

CHITWAN, July 4: Landslides have obstructed traffic in the Narayangadh-Muglin road again. The road is being affected in regular intervals due to rain-triggered landslides since the past three days. Landslide at a place called Seti Dhobhan in ward no. 29 of Bharatpur metropolis took place at around 10:00 pm last night. As result, both way traffic remains stalled since last night. Efforts are being made to clear the debris of the landslide with the help of dozers but would take some time as rainfall continues, said the District Police Office, Chitwan. The road was only opened for traffic at 9:00 am on Saturday, after clearing the debris of the landslide in various sections of the road.
