Maoist Center decides to ratify MCC

KATHMANDU, Feb 27: CPN (Maoist Center), a key coalition partner of the government, has decided to support the government to ratify the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). A central committee meeting of the party held on Sunday took a decision to ratify the MCC compact agreement with an ‘interpretative declaration’. The party took the decision after the ruling alliance conducted an ‘interpretative declaration’ on the disputed points. With this, the ruling alliance has now forged a consensus to ratify the MCC compact.

Maoist Center reschedules CC meeting for 2 PM today

KATHMANDU, March 6: The central committee meeting of the CPN (Maoist Center) has been rescheduled for 2 PM on Sunday. Earlier, the meeting was scheduled to be held at 11 AM on the same day. “The meeting has been rescheduled for 2 PM Sunday,” said Shree Ram Dhakal, chief secretary at the party office. The meeting will be held at Battisputali-based Anupam Party Palace, according to Dhakal. Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal will be responding to questions raised on ratification of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) during the meeting. The party is yet to give a complete shape to its central committee, office bearers, standing committee and politburo committee.

Central Committee meeting of CPN (Maoist Center) underway

KATHMANDU, March 4: The central committee meeting of the CPN (Maoist Center) is currently underway at the National Assembly Building in Kathmandu. The meeting scheduled at 11 AM on Friday kicked off at 1 PM this afternoon. The meeting is expected to witness ups and downs as a fraction of the party-led by leader Narayankaji Shrestha is not satisfied with the party's decision to ratify the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)-Nepal compact. Earlier, the party’s general convention had decided to oppose the MCC compact ratification without amendments to some provisions. Besides, the meeting is expected to dwell on the current political situation, and completion of the standing committee, office bearers, politburo and central committee of the party.

Anti-MCC protests to be continued on Friday

KATHMANDU, Feb 18: The sister organization of the CPN (Maoist Center), key coalition partner of the government, Young Communist League Nepal (YCL) and All Nepal National Free Students' Union (Revolutionary) is scheduled to stage a protest against the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) in the capital on Friday. The protest will kick off at 12 noon at New Baneshwar in Kathmandu. Series of protests have erupted in the capital following the government’s decision to table the MCC in parliament for ratification. The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) want the MCC to be ratified at the earliest but the CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN (Unified Socialist) are opposing the $500 million American grant. So far, the main opposition party, CPN-UML has not maintained any position regarding the compact.

Maoist center to vote against MCC if govt tables it without national consensus

KATHMANDU, Feb 16: At the time when the government is confident in tabling the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) in parliament today, the CPN (Maoist Center), a key coalition partner of the ruling Nepali Congress has maintained that Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) cannot be moved ahead without national consensus. A parliamentary party meeting of the party held earlier this morning took the decision to vote against MCC if the government tabled it without national consensus. In this case, the party will withdraw its suppport from the government. The party has maintained time and again that the MCC cannot be ratified in its present form. Likewise, the main opposition party, CPN-UMl, that has been obstructing the House proceeding for the past five months, has maintained to continue the obstruction on Wednesday as well.

MCC Vice Prez calls on CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Dahal at Khumaltar

KATHMANDU, September 10: Fatema Z Sumar, vice president of the Department of Compact Operations at the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) called on Puspha Kamal Dahal, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) on Friday morning. Vice President Sumar is expected to convince and urge Dahal to ratify the MCC Compact from parliament. Sumar arrived in Nepal on Thursday as the MCC Compact awaits ratification from parliament. She held meetings with UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal shortly after her arrival. Sumar is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday itself.

KATHMANDU: Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) will not be endorsed through parliament. Addressing the first central committee meeting of the Young Communist League (YCL) in the capital on Tuesday, Chairman Prachanda said that his party would not endorse any kind of proposals which go against nation and nationality. “MCC is less likely to get endorsed. We had sent a diplomatic note to the US government in this regard, however, have not get any response yet,” said he, adding, “MCC won’t be endorsed unless a response is received.”
