Thapa, Lingden file candidacy for RPP Chair. Know candidates from both panels

KATHMANDU: Kamal Thapa and Rajendra Lingden have filed their candidacy for the position of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) chairman.  Thapa, who is serving as one of three chairmen of the party and Lingden, on Friday, registered their candidacy. Both of them were accompanied by their supporters as they reached the City Hall at the Exhibition Road in the capital.  According to a member of the party’s election committee, Dipak Bohora proposed Thapa as the party chairman. Similarly, Niranjan Thapa seconded the proposal.  While Ramanand proposed Lingden’s candidacy, Bikash Bahadur Mahat seconded him as the new chair to lead the party for the next four years.  Likewise, Buddhiman Tamang, Bikram Pandey, Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan and Roshan Karki have been fielded as the candidates for vice-chair from the Thapa panel. The rival faction, on the other hand, fielded Bikram Pandey, Dil Bikash Rajbhandari, Ram Chandra Raya and Lila Shrestha as vice-chair candidates. Pandey has been nominated as the candidate for the vice-chair position by both panels.  Bhuwan Pathan, Bhaskar Bhadra and Kunti Shahi are in the fray for the position of general secretary from the Thapa faction. Similarly, Dr Dhawal Shumsher Rana, Shyam Timilsina and Rekha Thapa registered their candidacy for the general secretarial position from the Lingden faction. While Rana is serving as the mayor of Nepalgunj sub-metropolitan city, Thapa is a renowned actress in the Nepalis movie industry.  The right-wing party has been holding its first unity general convention in the capital since Wednesday.

Kamal Thapa to revive RPP Nepal

KATHMANDU, Feb 13: Kamal Thapa, who quit the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) last week, is preparing to revive the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Nepal. “We are preparing to revive RPP Nepal which is already registered in the Election Commission,” a high-level RPP leader told Ratopati. The party, RPP Nepal, registered in the name of Lakpa Tamang, is now to be headed by Kamal Thapa. According to the source, both Thapa and Lakpa have already reached an agreement on it. Thapa quit the RPP on Tuesday and announced the formation of a new party.
