SINDHUPALCHOWK, July 23: The landslide and flood triggered by incessant rainfall has damaged roads in different parts of Melamchi and Helambu in Sindhupalchowk district.

SINDHUPALCHWOK, SEPTEMBER: The Nepali Congress, Constituency No. 2 Disaster Management Committee has distributed cash support to flood survivors in Melamchi and Helambu municipalities. A total of Rs. 750,000 was distributed to the flood survivors of Melamchi Bazaar and Talamarang of Melamchi Municipality and Gyalthum Bazaar of Helambu Municipality. The people whose houses were washed away by the floods in Melamchi and Helambu have been provided cash assistance and whose lands and shops have been washed away will be rehabilitated, said constituency-2 chair Aitman Tamang. According to him, Rs. 4,000 each was distributed to 46 households in Melamchi Bazaar and Rs. 100,000 was handed over to the ward chairperson in Talamarang. Similarly, a lump sum of Rs. 350,000 was handed over to each ward chairperson for Helambu and Rs. 20,000 was provided to four landslide survivors of Melamchi-5 at the rate of Rs. 5,000 each.

Flood victims leaving villages in droves to earn livelihood

Since June 15, locals of Melamchi and Helambu area in Sindhupalchowk district have been living in makeshift shelters due to continuous floods. Following days of struggle amid fear of more flood, the locals have now started leaving their houses in droves to make a living elsewhere. Flood victims from Chalisey village, Kiul, Talamarang, Chunaute bazaar, and Ganeshbagar of Helambu Rural Municipality and Simkhet, Melamchi bazaar and Dulal village of Melamchi Municipality have started heading towards the Kathmandu Valley and Banepa and other cities.

Siren fixed to receive prior alert about flood

SINDHUPALCHOK, July 2: Melamchi Municipality in Sindhupalchowk district has fixed a siren as the flood early warning system to the communities residing on the riverbank areas. With the installation of the siren, it is expected that there will be reduction in the humanitarian loss from the flood.  The heavy flooding and landslides occurred two weeks ago wrecked havoc in Melamchi and Helambu area claiming lives of many people and damaging huge properties.

Helambu calls locals to stay alert for landslide, floods

SINDHUPALCHOWK, June 19: As the risk of landslide and flooding has not yet been over, Helambu Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchowk has called upon the folks to remain alert. Issuing a notice this evening, the local level said that the flash flood in the Melamchi River on June 15 was the result of a landslide at Bhemadhang ground below the Mt. Semesidang.    The rural municipality further said that 25 percent of the ground had collapsed due to the landslide and it was not sure what would happen in the remaining part while urging the folks to remain alert and apply utmost precautions as chances are likely for the flood.  The swollen Melamchi River on Wednesday had wreaked havoc in Melamchi and Helambu areas,  killing some people and sweeping away many while dozens of houses were damaged in the flood.  The water level in the river is yet to recede and that has caused panic to the local people. As the area is facing a humanitarian crisis, the local levels in and around Melamchi and Helambu are working to help the needy people, rescue the stranded ones and to relocate the displaced families in a safe place.
