Tourism entrepreneurs worried as Chinese Airlines threaten to halt flights to Nepal over VAT dispute on air tickets
POKHARA, June 18: Tourism entrepreneurs in Nepal are worried as Chinese airlines have warned that it will stop flights to Nepal if the VAT provision on air tickets is not removed.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA), the global trade association for the airline industry, has expressed concern over the provision of charging 13 percent value-added tax (VAT) on air tickets for foreign travel as announced in the government of Nepal’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2023-24.
The Cyber Bureau of the Nepal Police, through Nepal Tourism Board, has begun alerting those service-providers to avoid being victimized after the hackers were on the prowl regarding the sales of the air tickets.
The Nepal Police's Cyber Bureau, in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board, has started notifying service providers to prevent them from falling prey to hackers who have been targeting the sale of air tickets.

KATHMANDU, May 20: The Himalayan Airlines has stated that it has maintained transparency while selling air tickets.
The airlines has, through a press release, refuted some media report that it had charged extra ticket fee to the Indian passengers flown to Saudi Arabia from Nepal.
Government of Nepal had permitted Nepal Airlines Corporation and Himalayan Airlines to make chartered flights to ferry the Indian citizens stranded in Nepal who were aspiring to fly for Saudi Arabia.
The Airlines has stated that it had issued the tickets following global distribution system, the reliable ticketing system across the globe and therefore it had maintained transparency in ticketing.
The Airlines had made three chartered fights to Saudi Arabia carrying stranded Indian citizens from Nepal. The Indians were stuck in Nepal after the imposition of the prohibition in international flights aimed at prevention and control of COVID-19 pandemic.
KATHMANDU, May 12: Nepal has extended the ongoing suspension of international flights, which was due to expire on May 14, until May end.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), issuing a statement on Tuesday, shared that the ongoing suspension of international flights has been extended until May 31 midnight.
The CAAN also aksed the airlines companies not to open new booking to and from Nepal until further notice. Similarly, the airlines are required to facilitate the passengers on refunding of air tickets or extend the travel date as per their requirement.
However, two flights a week -- between Kathmandu and New Delhi--- each by Nepal Airlines and Air India under the Air Bubble Agreement between two countries, will be operated on a regular basis.
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal said it has notified airlines to facilitate refunding of air tickets or extension of travel dates as required by passengers.
