Indian officials have asked for the permission to lift water from the Mahakali River to solve the water supply crisis in Dharchula, an Indian city across Darchula in Nepal. The Mahakali River is the western border between Nepal and India.
The Mahakali River at the border of Nepal and India in Darchula district now has 10 suspension bridges over it. Of them, six were built by the federal government’s Tuin Displacement Programme in the last six years.
Nepal and India have been able to amiably resolve a border-related tension that recently emerged after the southern neighbour began constructing an embankment unilaterally towards the Nepali boundary in the Mahakali River.
The elected representatives of the local levels of Nepal and India have jointly planted maize and eaten Nepali-style rice pudding (Kheer) on the occasion of Shrawan 15 at Tirkhadeni, Dashrathchand Municiplaity–10 on Friday.
