BUTWAL, July 4: The primary opposition party CPN-UML has boycotted the Lumbini Provincial Assembly meeting on Tuesday. The UML Members of Parliament walked out of the meeting shouting slogans to disrupt the meeting.

KATHMANDU, August 23: The main opposition party, CPN-UML has been obstructing the Lumbini Province Assembly meeting recently and has announced to keep obstructing the meeting in coming days as well.
The UML has been obstructing the Assembly meeting, demanding the Speaker to dismiss lawmakers Bimala Kumari Khatri Oli and Ajay Bahadur Sahai from their post. However, the Province Secretariat on Sunday stated that Oli and Sahai cannot be dismissed from their post, maintaining that there are no strong bases to do so.
The assembly meeting is scheduled to be held at 1 PM on Monday, but the UNL has maintained that it will obstruct the meeting unless lawmakers Oli and Sahai are not removed from their posts.
Bhumeshwar Dhakal, the chief whip of UML , said that the party won’t let the provincial assembly conduct its activities unless lawmakers OLi and Sahai are removed from their posts.
Earlier, the UML had urged the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly to sack lawmakers Oli and Sahai from their posts stating that they acted against the party’s whip.
The party has also demanded the resignation of the speaker, Purna Bahadur Garti, after he refused to sack lawmakers Oli and Sahai from their post.
BUTWAL, Aug 17: Main opposition CPN-UML obstructed the first meeting of the ninth session of Lumbini Province Assemble that began on Tuesday.
The UML lawmakers obstructed the meeting as soon as Speaker Puna Bahadur Gharti started proceedings.
The meeting, which was scheduled to take place at 1:30PM, began late at 2:30 PM.
The lawmakers belonging to the UML demanded immediate decision regarding two members --- Ajaya Bahadur Shahi and Bimalai Oli.
Speaker Gharti announced that the meeting has been rescheduled for 1PM on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Kul Prasad KC was also scheduled to address Tuesday’s meeting.
RUPANDEHI, August 17: The CPN (UML), Lumbini has written to the Lumbini Province Assembly Speaker asking to relieve PA members Ajay Shahi and Bimala Khatri Oli from their posts.
Citing the two acted against the party rules and statute, the party has submitted a letter to Speaker Purna Bahadur Gharti, seeking their removal from the post of PA member, according to UML Parliamentary Party Chief Whip for Lumbini, Bhumishwor Dhakal.
Shahi is the incumbent Minister Without Portfolio in the Province Government. He was elected to the 2017 Province Assembly election from Nawalparasi 1 (Kha) from the election symbol ‘Sun’, the party symbol of CPN (UML) while Oli was elected from Dang 3 (Kha ) in the 2019 November by-election on behalf of the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP), the party formed by uniting the CPN (UML) and the CPN (Maoist Centre).

BUTWAL, May 1: The CPN-UML, Lumbini Province has re-proposed Shankar Pokhrel as the candidate for chief minister from the party.
A meeting of the CPN (UML) parliamentary party held in Butwal on Sunday agreed to propose party standing committee member Pokhrel again as the Chief Minister, according to party chief whip Bhumishwor Dhakal. Pokhrel resigned as Chief Minister of the province earlier today.
The Nepali Congress and the CPN (Maoist Center) had filed a no-confidence motion against him on April 19. As Dhakal said, the party will claim for the formation of a single majority government of the party and the (new) government will be formed in accordance with the Article 168 (1) of the constitution.
Pokhrel is expected to be re-appointed and be sworn-in as the Chief Minister today itself. Appointments of other ministers will be made later, it is said. The 81-member Lumbini Province Assembly has 41 members from the CPN (UML), 19 from the Nepali Congress, 17 from the CPN (Maoist Center), two from the Janata Samajbadi Party and one from the Janamorcha Nepal.
