Westerly low-pressure system to cause light rainfall and snowfall today

KATHMANDU, Jan 28: Light precipitation and snowfall are predicted in a few parts of the country today due to the westerly low-pressure system. The weather will remain partly to generally cloudy in the majority of the places across the country, said the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. Due to the influence of the westerly low-pressure system, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy in Province No 1, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province while light rainfall is likely in a couple of places in hilly areas. Few places in high hilly areas could witness light snowfall, the Department informed.  Currently, the hilly region has cloudy conditions while few parts of the Terai region have remained foggy and misty. The weather will likely remain partly cloudy in hilly areas by tonight while remaining places will have clear weather.  Similarly, Province No 1, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province’s hilly places will be partly cloudy on Saturday while weather is likely to be clear in other parts of the country on that day, the Department shared.  The Department recorded 4.0 degrees Celsius to be the minimum temperature of Kathmandu Valley while 14.0 is the highest today. Jumla district recorded the minimum temperature at -5.0 degrees Celsius while Dipayal in Doti district had the maximum temperature at 19.8 degrees Celsius.

Westerly wind likely to cause rain, snowfall

KATHMANDU, Jan 20: The westerly wind is likely to cause general changes in weather systems across the country for three days and also bring light rainfall in some mountainous areas and snowfall in the high hills and Himalayan region. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Kathmandu has witnessed a fall in mercury with a foggy sky since early this morning. Light rain has also occurred this morning. The Division has urged one and all to adopt necessary alert measures as the temperature is likely to drop further with the chances of rainfall and snowfall. Kathmandu’s maximum temperature was recorded at 5.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum was at 1.8 degrees Celsius as per the latest update of the division

KATHMANDU, December 29: Chandragiri hill, one of the prime tourists' destinations of Kathmandu Valley, has witnessed snowfall this morning.  Snowfall took place in Chandragiri hill this morning along with light drizzle since last night. This is the first time snowfall capped the Chandragiri hill in the winter this year.  General Manager of Chandragiri Hills Limited, Abhishek Bikram Shah informed that the inflow of tourists to the hill has increased so as to take advantage of snowfall since this morning.  Snowfall has occurred in the high hills and mountainous regions of the country with weather changes. According to the Weather Forecast and Meteorology Division, light drizzle took place in different parts of the country since last night.  Kathmandu valley has witnessed a fall in mercury with rainfall since last night. Excessive snowfall with rain kills 50 sheep and goats in Ranikharka

SIMIKOT, May 24: Incessant rainfall in lower belt and snowfall in higher belt of Humla district for some days have left 50 sheep and goats dead in Patan – the border of Simkot and Namkha.  The continuous snowfall in Patan located somewhere between Ranikharka, Namkha and Simkot-8 caused the death of 50 sheep and goats of Rol Bahadur Budha in Simkot-8.  Budha informed that 50 out of 150 sheep and goats died on the way back to home from high hill grazing land due to excessive cold caused by incessant snowfall.  He has urged the concerned authorities to provide support in the treatment of cattle. “The abrupt snowfall occurred after decades has troubled his livelihood with the loss of his source of income. A sheep is sold up to Rs 10,000 in the district”, he said.
