Govt waives climbing royalty for Nepal-Korea Friendship Expedition
With Nepal and South Korea celebrating the golden jubilee of their bilateral relations next month, the government today decided to waive mountaineering royalty for a joint expedition attempting to climb Jugal mountains in Sindhupalchowk district.
KATHMANDU, Oct 10: The government has collected Rs 65.9 million in royalty so far with the opening of mountain climbing for the autumn season of this year. The government collected the revenue from a total of 31 mountain climbing permits.
A total of 250 mountaineers (194 women and 56 men) from 45 countries are attempting to summit Mt Everest this spring climbing season from the Nepal side. Altogether, climbers from 65 countries including Nepal, have already ventured into 19 peaks raising the government a total of Rs310 million in royalty.

KATHMANDU, September 7: Mountaineers are found attracted to climb the 8,163-metre-tall Mount Manaslu in this autumn.
The Department of Tourism has granted permission to 160 climbers of 16 expedition groups to climb the Mt Manaslu.
Similarly, a group has taken permission till Monday to climb Mt Kanchanjangha, according to the Department. It is 8,586 meters tall.
A total of Rs 3.146 million has been collected as royalty so far from it. Autumn is considered the best season for climbing mountains. A remarkable number of domestic and foreign mountaineers used to climb mountains in this season.
Domestic and foreign climbers have acquired permission to climb mountains in this season even in the risk of COVID-19 pandemic.
A significant number of tourists including some distinguished foreign guests had climbed the mountains during the COVID-19 pandemic last year too, according to the Department.
KATHMANDU, March 29: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has issued climbing permits to 128 people this spring climbing season so far. A total of 16 teams have received permits to scale various mountains and peaks across the country. The DoT has collected over USD 218,600 in royalty from issuing climbing permits as of Monday.
