EC seeks clarification from CPN (US), NC leader Koirala

KATHMANDU, April 11: The Election Commission (EC) on Monday sought clarification from the CPN (Unified Socialist) Party and the Nepali Congress (NC) leader Shashank Koirala regarding their recent activities related to the upcoming local level election. “We have received complaints from news media and social media that the CPN (US) defied the election code of conduct issued by the poll body during its public gathering held at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu on Saturday. So, the poll body has sought clarification about the issue from the party within three days,” said an official of the commission during the conference. Likewise, the poll body has also urged NC leader Shashank Koirala to clarify the cost of local level elections held in 2074 BS within seven days. Earlier, Koirala had submitted a report that while contesting in the election from Bardaghat Election Constituency-1, it had cost Rs 2,175,000. However, in various news media, Koirala has maintained that the election cost was Rs 60 million.

Coalition won’t be acceptable during local level polls: Shekhar Koirala

KATHMANDU, Feb 10: Leader of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC), Shekhar Koirala and Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), Pushpa Kamal Dahal, held a discussion on Thursday morning. In the meeting, Koirala told Dahal that the coalition won’t be acceptable in the upcoming local level elections. Nepali Congress  and CPN(MC) are coalition partners in the current government led by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba including CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha Party. The two leaders discussed the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC), coalition and avoiding a parliamentary stalemate, according to Dinesh Thapaliya, personal secretary of Koirala.  During the meeting, Dahal had proposed to go to the polls as a coalition partner but Koirala refused the call.  Earlier, Koirala had held a similar discussion with Chairman of the main opposition party, CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli.
