KATHMANDU, Dec 20: Both the President, Sher Bahadur Deuba and the general secretary, Gagan Thapa, of the Nepali Congress filed their candidacy for the post of the parliamentary party leader of the party on Tuesday.
The voting for the election of the parliamentary party leader is scheduled on Wednesday.
Youth leader Thapa is backed by leaders like Shekhar Koirala, Pradip Poudel, Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Dhan Raj Gurung.

KATHMANDU, July 27: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Puhspa Kamal Dahal Prachanda have held a meeting.
In the meeting that took place at the official residence of the prime minister in Baluwatar on Tuesday morning, Deuba and Prachadna discussed the Cabinet expansion.
According to Bhanu Deuba, personal aide to PM Deuba, the discussion dwelt on various current affairs including Cabinet expansion.
Deuba added that expansion of the six-member Deuba-led Cabinet will take some more days as consultations among the parties of the ruling alliance is still underway.
Following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the House dissolution case, Nepali Congress President and parliamentary party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba was appointed PM as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution on July 13. He also won House confidence on July 18 as per Article 76 (6).
Deuba-led Cabinet has six members including four ministers ---- two each from the NC and Maoist Center ---- and a minister of state from the NC.
KATHMANDU, July 18: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has won a trust motion from the House of Representatives (HoR).
Deuba, who was appointed the prime minister as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution, tabled the motion at the lower House of parliament 25 days before the deadline. As per Article 76 (6), he is required to take the trust vote within 30 days days of his appointment.
Of the 271 members of the 275-member HoR, the majority of lawmakers ---- 165--- voted in favor of Nepali Congress President and parliamentary party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba. Eighty three lawmakers stood against Deuba while one opted to stay neutral.
With this, Deuba will remain as the prime minister until the next general election. The lower House’s current term is due to expire nearly after one and a half years.
KATHMANDU, July 15: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the friendship and partnership between Nepal and the United States of America would be further strengthened during his new tenure.
PM Deuba said this during a meeting with US Ambassador to Nepal, Randy Berry, at his residence this morning, the Prime Minister's Secretariat said.
Matters relating to Nepal-US relations and cooperation, including medical support, were exchanged during the meeting.
The US ambassador had congratulated PM Deuba on Tuesday through social media. Nepali Congress president and parliamentary party leader Deuba took the oath of office and secrecy on Tuesday.
KATHMANDU, July 14: Ambassador of India to Nepal, Vinay Mohan Kwatra has congratulated Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. The Indian ambassador reached Deuba's residence at Budhanilkantha today and congratulated him. He also extended best wishes to the newly-appointed Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
In the meeting, PM Deuba, who is also looking after the portfolio of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recalled the age-old friendly relations between the two countries and also thanked the ambassador for the congratulations.
