KATHMANDU, Jan 18: Chairperson of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Upendra Yadav said that naming Province 2 as Madhes Province has honored the Madhes movement.
Addressing a celebration program after the Province-2 Assembly passed the name --- Madhes Province--- and its capital city as Janakpurdham on Monday, Chairperson Yadav said that the sacrifice of Madhesi people and their dream is reflected with the naming of Madhes Province. “We're happy to have this name of our province."
He further said it also provides impetus to take forward the advocacy of ending discrimination and exploitation. Yadav thanked the Province Assembly members and political leaders for endorsing this name.
On the occasion, Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport, Renu Kumari Yadav, also said the dispute entrenched for long on naming the province has now ended. "We are proud of Madhes Province," she said, adding that it has well honored the martyrs of the Madhes movement.
On the occasion of the naming of the province, the Madhes Province has given a public holiday today.
The Madhes Province encompasses eight districts of southern plains in the eastern belt of Nepal.

The fifth session of Province-2 Assembly will be taking place on Monday- first time after around six months. It is mandatory for the Province to ensure its regular session in six months. According to PA Parliament Secretariat officiating secretary Ranjit Yadav, the fourth session of Province 2 was concluded on October 20 last year.
As Yadav said, though a business advisory committee meeting was called before the PA session, it has not been possible as the names of new faces on the committee are yet to be finalised.
It requires to reshuffle the committee in the aftermath of the split of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and the unification of the Janata Samajbadi Party. The meeting has been uncertain as the related parties are yet to recommend the names of people representing in the committee.
Shah replaces Mandal from parliamentary leader
Meanwhile, the CPN (Maoist Centre) has elected its parliamentary party leader for the Province 2. Bharat Shah has been elected to the post by the party meeting. Likewise, Jagat Yadav has been elected the deputy-leader while Dilip Shah named as the chief whip and Ruby Karna the whip.
Before the unification of the CPN (UML) and the CPN (Maoist Centre) to form the NCP, Ramchandra Mandal was elected as the parliamentary leader of CPN (Maoist-Centre). But he was stripped off the responsibilities as he stood with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's faction following the December 20 decision to dissolve the House of Representatives. Now Bharat Shah replaces Mandal, according to newly elected chief whip Shah.
The Parisdanda meeting has already decided to seek clarifications from four lawmakers including Mandal who have sided with Oli. Three others are Kundan Shah, Jwala Shah and Mohammad Samir Ansari. The party plans to relieve them as lawmakers as well. A total of 11 lawmakers represent the Maoist-Centre in Province 2.
