KATHMANDU, Jan 18: Chairperson of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Upendra Yadav said that naming Province 2 as Madhes Province has honored the Madhes movement.  Addressing a celebration program after the Province-2 Assembly passed the name --- Madhes Province---  and its capital city as Janakpurdham on Monday, Chairperson Yadav said that the sacrifice of Madhesi people and their dream is reflected with the naming of Madhes Province. “We're happy to have this name of our province." He further said it also provides impetus to take forward the advocacy of ending discrimination and exploitation. Yadav thanked the Province Assembly members and political leaders for endorsing this name. On the occasion, Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport, Renu Kumari Yadav, also said the dispute entrenched for long on naming the province has now ended. "We are proud of Madhes Province," she said, adding that it has well honored the martyrs of the Madhes movement. On the occasion of the naming of the province, the Madhes Province has given a public holiday today. The Madhes Province encompasses eight districts of southern plains in the eastern belt of Nepal.

Janakpur declared Province 2 capital

During the voting held on Monday, out of 99 lawmakers present in the Province Assembly, 78 cast their votes in favour of the proposal to make Janakpur as the provincial capital.

Two dead, 18 injured as bus collides with truck in Hetauda

MAKWANPUR, November 10: Two died and 18 other sustained injuries as a passenger bus collided with a truck in Hetauda. The ill-fated bus (Na 7 Kha 876) , heading to Janakpur from Kathmandu, collided with a truck (Province 2, 0301 Kha 5035) coming from the opposite direction at around 12:30 AM last night at the East-West Highway section of Hetauda-11. The deceased are both male travelling in the bus. They breathed their last while undergoing treatment at Hetauda Hospital, according to the District Police Office (DPO), Makwanpur. Deceased are yet to be identified, said DSP Jayshwar Rimal of the DPO. Likewise, 18 others sustained injuries in the accident. Of them, 15 are undergoing treatment at Chure Hill Hospital and three others in Makwanpur Co-operative Hospital. The police have arrested the driver of the truck who has also sustained some injuries.
