CPN (Maoist Center)’s Karki elected HoR member from Dolakha

KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Ganga Karki of CPN (Maoist Center) has been elected the member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from Dolakha district. Karki garnered 36,799votes for his victory while his nearest contender Bal Krishna Shivakoti of CPN-UML collected 36,482 votes. Likewise, Kunda Raj Kafle of Nepali Congress has been elected the member of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly from Dolakha (1). He garnered 23,331 votes while his nearest contender Nar Bahadur Shrestha of CPN-UML got 15,356 votes. Similarly, Bharat Bahadur KC of CPN-UML has also been elected the member of the Provincial Assembly from Dolakha (2).

KATHMANDU, March 27:  Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), the key coalition partner of Deuba-led government, Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday. Chinese FM Yi arrived here in Kathmandu on Friday for his three day visit.  Earlier this morning, Yi also called on  Chairman of CPN-UML, the main opposition party, KP Sharma Oli. Maoist Center to lay claim on UML’s new logo

KATHMANDU, October 7: Following the reveal of the new logo by the CPN (UML) through their first ever statute congress, the logo aroused a new controversy between the party and CPN (Maoist Center). The Maoist Center has accused CPN (UML) of using their logo. We will take legal actions. The party is currently holding discussions in this regard, Dev Gurung, a leader of Maoist Center told Ratopati. Meanwhile, the CPN (UML) has maintained that the Maoist Center cannot stake claim on their new logo.  Earlier when the two parties had merged and formed the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), these two parties then had a common logo. The CPN (UML), now, after its split with CPN (Maoist Center) has slightly changed the logo and endorsed it through their recent statute congress held for the first time in party history.

MCC Vice Prez calls on CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Dahal at Khumaltar

KATHMANDU, September 10: Fatema Z Sumar, vice president of the Department of Compact Operations at the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) called on Puspha Kamal Dahal, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) on Friday morning. Vice President Sumar is expected to convince and urge Dahal to ratify the MCC Compact from parliament. Sumar arrived in Nepal on Thursday as the MCC Compact awaits ratification from parliament. She held meetings with UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal shortly after her arrival. Sumar is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday itself.

Maoist Center to vote for PM Deuba

KATHMANDU, July 18: CPN (Maoist Center) has made a unanimous decision to vote in favor of the confidence motion registered by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the Federal Parliament Secretariat.  A meeting of the Maoist parliamentary party held at Singha Durbar earlier on Sunday afternoon   decided to vote in favor of PM Deuba, according to Rameshowr Yadav, a Maoist lawmaker.  On the occasion, Maoist Chairperson briefed the lawmakers of the current political events.  Prime Minister Deuba is taking the trust vote from the lower House of parliament in the second meeting to be held on Sunday afternoon, as per Article 76(6) of the constitution. Deuba was elected the prime minister replacing UML’s KP Sharma Oli as per Article 76 (5).  Deuba will have to garner at least 136 votes in the 275-member House to win the confidence.

EC says Maoist Center is legitimate party

KATHMANDU, July 11: The Election Commission (EC) has decided that the legitimacy of the CPN (Maoist Center) will remain intact.  Hearing the petition filed by advocate Saroj Budhathoki, as planned by the former Maoist leaders, the poll body dismissed the claims made by the petitioner that the party is illegitimate.  Advocate Budhathoki filed a petition at the commission on July 7 and asked the latter for the revocation of the party.  Leaders including Prabhu Shah, Mani Thapa and Gaurishankar Chaudhari, who joined the CPN-UML after the erstwhile NCP was invalidated, reached the poll body on Friday under the leadership of Top Bahadur Rayamajhi. Meanwhile, Lekhraj Bhatta , who also sought the invalidation of the Maoist party, didn’t join them due to health issues. Shah, Thapa Bhatta and Chaudhari were elected through the FPTP electoral system in 2017 general elections on behalf of the Maoist party. A five-member bench presided by Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya decided that the party is still legitimate. Other members of the bench include the election commissioners Ishwari Prasad Poudel, Ram Prasad Bhandari, Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and Sagun Shumsher JBR.  Click here to read the news in detail.
