Will Deuba win trust motion?

KATHMANDU, July: In less than a week he was appointed the prime minister as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution, Sher Bahadur Deuba is scheduled to take a trust vote from parliament on Sunday afternoon.  Though he will have more than 25 days as per Article 76 (6), a confidence motion was registered at the Parliament Secretariat. The motion was also tabled at the Business Advisory Committee of the House of Representatives.  Will Deuba win the trust vote?  Deuba requires at least 136 votes in the 271-member HoR in order to win the motion. There are 61 members from the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) adn 49 from the CPN (Maoist Center) who will definitely vote for him. Similarly, the Upendra Yadav faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), which holds 17 votes, will also vote for him. The JSP has a total of 31 members. Rastriya Janamorcha’s Durga Poudel is also in the favor of Dauba. This means Deuba now has 128 votes.  Deuba requires an additional eight votes, which the CPN-UML’s Madhav Nepal faction is likely to cast in his favor as 23 members of the faction extended their support to him when he staked claim to the government on May 21.  The UML has a total of 121 members and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Nepal Workers Peasants Party (NWPP)have a member each. RPP and NWPP are less likely to vote for Deuba.

KATHMANDU, April 1: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba left for India on Friday afternoon. PM Deuba is on his three day official visit to India on an invitation of his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. Leading the 50 member Nepali delegation, Deuba flew to India this afternoon on an aircraft of Nepal Airlines. The team is scheduled to return to Nepal at 6:10 on Sunday. PM Deuba is accompanied by his wife Arju Deuba, Minister for Energy and Water Resources, Pampa Bhusal, Minister for Health and Population, Birod Kathiwada and other officials of various ministries.
