EC decides to ask Janak Education Material Center to print 20 million ballot papers

KATHMANDU, March 27: At the time when the local level election is on our doorsteps, the Election Commission (EC) has decided to ask the Janak Education Material Center to print as many as 20 million ballot papers. “The center has already been directed for the same, said Saligram Sharma Poudel,” spokesperson for the poll body. Printing of the ballot paper is scheduled to begin from March 28. The ballot papers will be first printed for the Himalayan and Hilly regions then for other urban regions. The center has been asked to complete the printing by May 3. The poll body has also begun preparations to publish a final voter list.

It may take a month to get full set of textbooks

Schools’ students across the country are facing acute shortage of textbooks even a week after the start of the new academic session. Schools are having to wait for textbooks as the Janak Education Materials Centre (JEMC), the only textbooks printing authority of the government, spent its textbooks printing time by printing ballot papers. All schools across the country, including in the Kathmandu Valley, have been facing the problem.

Printing of school textbooks going on uninterrupted: JEMC

Janak Education Materials Centre (JEMC) informed that printing of schools’ textbooks was going on and that it was not halted because of ballot paper printing task. Though it started printing ballot papers since March 31, printing of the textbooks hasn’t affected because of this, said the JEMC.

Ballot paper printing starts for local polls

The Election Commission has started printing ballot papers from Monday for the upcoming local level election slated on May 13. Janak Education Material Centre Ltd., Sanothimi Bhaktapur has started printing ballot papers for the local poll. Speaking at the regular press meet, Election Commission’s Spokesperson Saligram Sharma Poudel said that the printing of the ballot papers would start from today. Stating that a total of 180,000 sample ballot papers have already been printed as a test, Poudel said the printing of original ballot papers would start from Monday. Earlier on Thursday, the EC had already inspected the situation at the centre in terms of security, including machine and ink used for printing.
