KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Humla, a mountainous district in the western part of the country, has been witnessing a heavy snowfall since Sunday evening.  According to locals, higher belts and district headquarters Simikot have been blanketed with snow.  Following the fourth round of snowfall this season, normal life has been hit hard.  Constant snowfall in the mountainous district has brought chills, with temperature coming down below the freezing point.

HUMLA, Jan 9: Humla, a mountainous district, has received heavy snowfall since Friday evening. Simkot, the district headquarters of Humla, has been largely hit by heavy  snowfall. Human mobility has been completely disrupted.  The temperature has dropped drastically below minus 12 degrees Celsius. Chapal Lama, a local of Tumkot, shared that up to four feet of snow has accumulated  in Malimi, Muchul and other areas of Namkha Municipality.  As a result, even the drinking water and the river water have frozen.  Usually busy with people, Simkot is now deserted due to extreme cold and snow. Assistant Chief District Officer Dasharath Rai shared that daily life has been largely hit by the snowfall and cold.

Excessive snowfall with rain kills 50 sheep and goats in Ranikharka

SIMIKOT, May 24: Incessant rainfall in lower belt and snowfall in higher belt of Humla district for some days have left 50 sheep and goats dead in Patan – the border of Simkot and Namkha.  The continuous snowfall in Patan located somewhere between Ranikharka, Namkha and Simkot-8 caused the death of 50 sheep and goats of Rol Bahadur Budha in Simkot-8.  Budha informed that 50 out of 150 sheep and goats died on the way back to home from high hill grazing land due to excessive cold caused by incessant snowfall.  He has urged the concerned authorities to provide support in the treatment of cattle. “The abrupt snowfall occurred after decades has troubled his livelihood with the loss of his source of income. A sheep is sold up to Rs 10,000 in the district”, he said.
