179 schools rebuild in Baglung

GALKOT, April 27: A total 179 schools have so far been rebuild in Baglung district under the post-earthquake reconstruction campaign. According to the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), District Project Office Baglung, the reconstruction works are nearing final phase in the district.   Baglung is of the districts hit by the 2015 April earthquake that struck the country to its core. According to NRNA, almost all quake-damaged schools have been restored in the district. The promptness on the part of District project Implementation Unit Education has been credited for the remarkable progress in the school reconstruction efforts.  Unit chief Matilal Chapai said the school reconstruction drive was launched in a phase-wise approach.   However, some schools in geographically remote areas could not be rebuild on time.  As Chapai said, the schools reconstruction project has been almost complete. The work progress was satisfactory even during the last year's nationwide lockdown against the virus.

Tamankhola Rural Municipality prepares local curriculum

GALKOT, July 20: Tamankhola Rural Municipality of Baglung has prepared a local curriculum for the first time in district. The books based on the local curriculum have been sent to all schools in the rural municipality.  It was prepared in a year. The rural municipality informed that efforts were on to introduce 'Mero Tamankhola' (My Tamankhola) book from this very academic session. Rural municipality chair Joklal Budhamagar shared that the book would be used for Grade 1 to 5 students. It is resourceful to inculcate knowledge on indigenous culture and customs and local geography to the students who are now unaware of these, he observed.  "Although the students are aware of national and international issues at present, they are unaware about their local community and socio-economic developments," he reiterated, adding that they would now have general knowledge on geography of their locality, social system and tourism potentials. The rural municipality spent nearly Rs 700 thousand to prepare the book. There are a total of 23 schools- 21 community and two private schools in the rural municipality. Culture, geography, agriculture, forest products, livestock etc are some of the topics in the book.  The seven-member curriculum determination committee having rural municipality chair as coordinator and education officer as member secretary developed the curriculum. Tamankhola Rural Municipality, one of the remote local levels in the district, has been working actively for the socio-economic developments since its establishment. Chairperson Budha further informed that local curriculum would be expanded to secondary level in two years. The curriculum is developed on the basis of constitutional provision.

Junk food prohibited as midday meal in Baglung schools

With the aim of prohibiting junk food as a midday meal in schools and promote locally produced food across the public schools of the Tamankhola Rural Municipality, Baglung, the Municipality has ordered schools to strictly prohibit feeding junk food as lunch in the schools.

Teaching learning activities in schools in big cities to be run virtually

Government has decided to shut down schools in big cities considering the growing risk of Covid-19. The teaching/learning activities in those schools would be run virtually.  The meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Baluwatar today took the decision to instruct the schools in big cities run classes adopting alternative learning method until mid-May, shared Spokesperson of the government Parbat Gurung. The Covid-19 cases were reported mostly from the school children in the urban areas. A total of 3,565 children below five years were reported to have contracted the flu-like infection as of Sunday. Similarly, 10 children under that had succumbed to the infection during this period. Earlier, the Ministry of Health and Population had appealed to the school administration in 14 districts with highest risk of coronavirus infection not to run schools. Morang, Parsa, Bara, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Kaski, Baglung, Rupandehi, Dang, Banke, Surkhet and Kailali had reported highest cases of Covid-19 amongst 77 districts in the country.

A communibty school becoming an example in rural Baglung

BAGLUNG, July 28:  Unlike a majority of community schools, Shree Janata Higher Secondary School (SJHSS), a community school of Jaimini Municipality-10, Rangkhani, Pahi, has become an exemplary school in the municipality. The school provides quality education and has started technical education which makes it a model school.
