KATHMANDU, April 5: The ruling alliance has formed an election preparation and monitoring committee under the leadership of Ram Chandra Poudel, leader of the Nepali Congress (NC). A meeting of the ruling alliance held on Tuesday formed a 10-member committee. The committee includes Gagan Thapa, general secretary of NC, Gyanendra Karki, Minister for Information and Communication, Dev Gurung and Barshaman Pun from CPN (Maoist Center), Beduram Bhusal and Bijay Poudel from CPN (Unified Socialist), Ashok Rai and Renu Kumari Yadav from Janata Samajbadi Party and Himal Puri from Rastriya Janamorcha Party. A meeting of the ruling alliance held on Thursday had asked all the members of the alliance to report about the status of the party at local levels. A similar meeting held on Tuesday has asked the parties to submit the report by April 8.   After receiving the report, the Poudel-led committee will prepare a modality after studying the report. The committee formed today will study the situation of forging an electoral alliance at local level in the upcoming polls and monitor if the directives from central level are being implemented or not, said Renu Dahal, Vice-Chair of Rastriya Janamorcha Party. Likewise, a meeting of the committee is scheduled for Wednesday.

Top leaders of ruling alliance hold meeting at Baluwatar

KATHMANDU, Jan 7: The coordination committee formed to facilitate the government is holding a meeting at the Baluwatar-based official residence of the prime minister.  Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) are present in the meeting.  Similarly, general secretary of CPN (US) Dr Bedu Ram Bhusal, NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chair Upendra Yadav and JSP’s Federal Council Chair Dr Baburam Bhattarai are among those present in the meeting.  Dura Poudel, vice-chair of Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) and government spokesperson Gyanendra Bahadur Karki are present in the meeting which is discussing a host of issues including the Jan 26 National Assembly elections.  Earlier,  the High-level Coordination Committee held a meeting on Thursday.  The committee presided by Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Chandra Poudel comprises the major leader of the five political parties belonging to the ruling coalition.  CPN (US) General Secretary Beduram Bhusal confirmed that the meeting discussed the upcoming election of the NA members scheduled for January 26 and form a province-level committee in all seven provinces with the representation of five political parties for the publicity of the event.  The ruling alliance has already filed joint candidacies for the elections. The meeting also decided to form a coordination committee for the publicity and management of the upcoming National Assembly (NA) election.

NC to conduct convention in 16 districts on Jan 11

KATHMANDU, December 28: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to hold the party conventions in the remaining 16 districts on January 11. The meeting of the central election committee of the NC took the decision that the 16 districts which failed to hold the conventions in time would now hold the district convention on January 11. Earlier, during the party’s 14th General Election, conventions were held in 61 districts only. The districts waiting for the convention as part of the 14th general convention of the party are Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Sindhuli, Makwanpur, Sindhupalchowk, Chitwan, Banke, Kailali, Accham and Nawalpur. The NC has already conducted the provincial conventions and the central general convention.

NC’s newly-elected CWC to hold first meeting on Saturday

KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Newly elected central working committee of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) is holding its first meeting on Saturday.  An NC leader told Ratopati on Wednesday that the meeting would be held at the Sanepa-based party’s central office.  Krishna Prasad Poudel, chief secretary at the party office, however, said the official notice for the meeting is yet to be circulated. “Though preparations are being made to convene the meeting by December 25,” he added.  Newly elected office bearers and members of the central executive committee will be distributed certificated by Friday, according to the party’s central election committee. Sher Bahadur Deuba, who was re-elected as the party president through a run-off held on Tuesday, last week, will assume office on Friday itself.  As many as 13 office bearers were elected through the election held as part of the 14th General Convention held last week.

KATHMANDU, July 23: A meeting of the existing and former office-bearers of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has started some time ago at Party President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba's residence in Budhanilkantha.   NC's central office's chief secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel said that the meeting is expected to discuss the job of the party's active membership probe committee and the 14th national general convention. The NC has decided to organise its 14th national general convention from July 31 to August 3 in Kathmandu. Likewise, the party has scheduled to conduct the election of its local level from July 27 but it is said that the date for such elections is likely to be rescheduled as there are some issues including the disputes about the party's active membership distribution.

NC urges EC to book those publicising election candidates during silence period

KATHMANDU, May 20: Main opposition Nepali Congress has urged the Election Commission to take action against those making publicity of the candidates during the silence period under the by-elections to the National Assembly.  The meeting of the NC Parliamentary Party on Wednesday took a decision to this effect. Voting in the by-elections is ongoing.  Silence period is 48 hours before voting and it prohibits the publicity related to elections on any platform during the time, according to the Election Code of Conduct. The NC has accused the Prime Minister and minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha of breaching the laws by asking for a vote for a particular candidate.
