UML accepts MCC-Nepal compact through its political report

KATHMANDU, March 23: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has accepted the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)-Nepal Compact. Earlier, while the ruling alliance ratified the MCC compact, the party had not stated its position. However, the political report of the party presented in the party's central committee meeting by Chairman KP Sharma Oli reads that the MCC compact has been ratified and it should now be implemented for the welfare of the nation. The report has also stressed a high flow of Foreign Direct Investments in the country for a prosperous development. KP Sharma Oli also maintained that the interpretive declaration issued by the government while ratifying the compact is meaningless.

Following UML obstruction, HoR meeting put off for Sunday (with photos)

KATHMANDU, Feb 18: Following the obstruction by the main opposition party, CPN-UML, the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting has been postponed for February 20 (Sunday). Soon after the Speaker of the House, Agni Prasad Sapkota began the House proceeding, the UML lawmakers began obstructing the House session, chanting slogans. Amid sloganeering UML lawmakers, Speaker Sapkota, granted permission to the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Dilendra Badu to present the report of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission (INC) on the behalf of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. UML elects delegates for General Convention in 14 districts

KATHMANDU: Main opposition CPN-UML is holding elections to pick delegates for the 10th National General Convention of the party, on Saturday.  As many as 1,999 delegates are to be picked from among 800,000 party members.  As per the report released by the party, 12 districts have so far elected their delegates unanimously to join the party’s general convention to be held in Chitwan. Two other districts held elections for the selection of delegates.  The convention is scheduled between November 26 and 28. The party held its First Statute Congress at Godawari, Lalitpur in October, earlier this year.  Check the list of districts that have elected the delegates as of Saturday afternoon:  1. Pyuthan  2. UML statute congress concluding today

KATHMANDU, October 3: The statute convention of CPN(UML) held for the very first time is scheduled to conclude on Sunday. The convention will end today after endorsing political documents presented by Chairman Oli, organizational structure report presented by party General Secretary Ishwar Pokhrela and statute amendment proposal presented by Deputy Secretary General Bishnu Poudel. “Today after receiving suggestions from group discussions the proposal presenters will respond and the convention will end, said Yogesh Bhattarai,” chief of UML publicity department. The statute congress of UML has been attended by more than 6,000 representatives from all across the country.

UML statute convention continues with deliberations on three reports

KATHMANDU, October 2: The first statute convention of the CPN (UML) continues on Saturday, with group discussion on the statute amendment proposal, political report and organizational report presented at the Sunrise Conference Center at Godavari in Lalitpur on Friday.  “Group discussions will be held in 10 different groups, and the group leaders will make a presentation in the plenary on all the three reports later today,” said UML central member and publicity sub-committee coordinator Khim Lal Bhattarai.  Political report was presented by party Chair KP Sharma Oli, organizational report by general secretary Ishwor Pokharel and statute amendment proposal was presented by deputy general secretary Bishnu Prasad Poudel. The group leader will submit suggestions on the report and the paper presenters will respond to them. A total of 6,347 delegates are participating in the convention that will run until Sunday.

UML forms eight groups to discuss various proposals, reports

KATHMANDU: Main opposition CPN-UML has started panel discussions over various proposals and political documents tabled in the ongoing central committee meeting of the party.  Party leader Pradeep Gyawali tabled a political report on behalf of party Chairman KP Sharma Oli at the meeting that began on Friday. The meeting is being held at the Chyasal-based Tulsilal Memorial Academy in Lalitpur.  While General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel tabled an organizational report, Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Poudel floated the statute amendment proposal in Friday’s meeting.  As many as eight different groups have been formed to discuss three proposals and reports tabled before the ongoing central committee meeting of the party.  The next meeting, scheduled for 11 PM, Saturday, is expected to incorporate the suggestions from the panel discussions and endorse the proposals and reports.  The main opposition is holding its Statute Convention from October 1 to 3 in Godawari, Lalitpur.
